Chopin FP

Recommended Posts

I am about to buy my first MB FP. And after quite a lot of deliberation, have settled on the idea of purchasing a classique black resin with gold trim. To me, if you have a mental image of a MB it is black with gold, so I thought it would be an ideal starting point.

I've gone for the B nib version and was wondering if anyone has any personal feedback on this model of pen?

Thanks :happyberet:

Are they not one in the same? The Chopin being the FP in the classique collection?

Is the 144 still in production, as it is not listed on the website, which shows the 149, LeGrand, Le Grand Traveller, Chopin and Mozart as the Meisterstuck models available?

The model I have on order is the Chopin with a free CD!! And I'll ask at the store about a 144.

In the meantime, I bow to your superior knowledge :happyberet:

:happyberet: Well I'm glad you cleared that up Ray! So, I am buying the FP in the classique family. It just happens to be called a Chopin.

So, I was correct in my first post. :happyberet:

Nope. The Chopin is part of the Meisterstuck range, but not the Classique family. 145 = Chopin 144 = classique.

So the classique family does not currently have a FP in its range. However, the Chopin is in the current range as a FP only. You cannot buy a Chopin RB or BP or MP?? Therefore for my purposes the Chopin 145 is as close to the classique size of FP that I can currently purchase through a MB supplier.

Are these details correct?

You've got it.

You'll notice that the other 'Classique' pens match the old 144 Classique fountain pen. For instance, they're smaller than the Chopin and those with caps have push on rather than screw on caps. If you talk about the Classique FP, people will know this refers to the old 144. The 145 Chopin is bigger and has a screw on cap, but as you note, there are no correponding BPs, FPs nor pencils which match it is size and style.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but to Montblanc collectors, the Classique and the Chopin are two different fountain pens.

Yip, you did come across as rather pedantic....but in the world of collectors I guess reference numbers rule!! So, I can purchase my 145 with confidence!! And hopefully enjoy using it. I assume no-one has anything particularly bad to say about this pen?

I got the 145 as my first pen this year in September. Long story short, I love it. Flawless writing from the start with no foreseen problems of the future. Definitely leaves with a positive FP experience. Hoping to get another FP within the next few months. Good luck with your pen. Do bad you didn't try the pen before you bought it.

I'd try a B before buying one. It's quite broad.

MBs run wide, so I'd also try M and F.

Try'em on the paper you will use.

I second this. I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but yeh: many people complain about MB nibs running to wide. The F apparently runs around a medium, but I wouldn't know, because I have nothing to compare to. I like my F nib, though I was originally going to get a XF. Either way, you can't lose. If you buy new and from an authorized source, you can get your nib replaced within a certain time frame if you aren't happy.

Good luck!

Hey orangesam, I'm the very happy owner of a Chopin, too. I love it! I have an M nib, which suits my big, loopy writing; a B would definitely be too much for me, and I think I would feel held back with an F, if that makes any sense. Congrats on the purchase. :bunny01:

I have the Chopin 145 and it is one of my favourite pens - size suits me, it works flawlessly and it is smooothe. I have the medium nib which again suits me, but I would love to have a broad for signatures.

I have tried this pen with almost all of the many inks I have and none yet have misbehaved. Mine is the silver trim (platinum?) not gold.

I much prefer it to my recently aquired Starwalker.

Hi! I hope you love your pen when you get it. Just for future reference (pardon the pedantics!! --but they often help me out a lot!), the Meisterstuck Solitaire Classique FP does (or at least did as of two years ago) have a screw-on cap. I actually think I would prefer the slightly larger size of the Chopin. Please let us know how you like your pen! :happyberet:

I have the Chopin, in black with platinum trim, EF nib. I was not too excited about this pen until I got it as a gift and loved the way it handles. The nib was still too wide for me (this is a recurring theme for me when it comes to certain brands), so I had it reground to a true EF and now it's absolutely perfect. Enjoy!
