Hi everybody,

Long time lurker, first time poster... My question is the following: I'm ready buy a 50's 142, it has the perfect size for me and I just love the design, the problem is that I have not found a lot of user reports for these pens, anyone can provide some feedback? I'm specially interested in seeing how pens of that era perform as a daily writers.

thanks a bunch

I think that there aren't many reviews because there aren't that many examples in people's collections.

The 142 was the smallest model of the top-line Meisterstuck series from that time, and I think that most people are spending their collecting dollars on the larger Meisterstucks of the era, the early 146 and 149.

You may be the FPN pioneer for this model, and if you get it, you could be the first to post a glowing review of why the rest of us should go out and get one of our own! B)

I'd love to try one myself, though my pen budget is nonexistent at the moment.

Actually they are very nice little pens. A little too small for my taste, but very nice pens.

This is my 142, along with matching pencil and period case.

Allan,

The truth is that after seeing your email I have rechecked the measurements of the 142 and I have to admit they are smaller than I thought. What I'm looking for is something smaller in diameter than my modern 146, pretty much in the area of a Parker "51", maybe the 144 is closer to what I want?

Lukas- the difference in diameter between a 1950s 144 and 142 is one millimeter or less, depending where you measure on the pen. They actually look similar side-by-side, with the biggest difference being the length of the two. A 142 is several mm shorter than a 144. See a pic of mine below (L-R, 142, 144, 144, 146, 146)

Best, Eric

Hi Eric Your profile picture.....is that what i think it is.......more Monties than i could dream of???????

Yes, there are a few...I've been at this for a while, although mine are mostly from the 1930s-1950s, Writer's Editions and more modern Meisterstück 146s and 149s with a variety of nib widths.

I am a bit of a Montyholic, but i only have 13 and most of them are modern. I got my first "older" 146 some months back it is from the early 80's so i guess it is still modern.

Are there a lot of 1930's - 1950's available? I would love to grow my collection.

Hey Eric,

You have the whole Alps in your profile picture :roflmho: ... If you don't mind, what it is the ballpark price for the 144? thanks.
