Tafts of Melbourne

I guess this is directed at Australian members!

 

I have just picked up a nice Conway Stewart pen from Australia in a box, which may or may not be original to the pen. It has on the underside

 

H. Taft & Co PTY LTD. 261 Collins Street Melbourne.

 

I see they are now listed at 259 Collins Street, so they haven't moved far! The pen dates from about 1924, does anybody know if this would be consistent with the above information on the box?

I can't give you much information, but I have visited the Tafts stores before (they have several around Melbourne, including the Collins St main store).

 

They claim to have been founded in 1906, and according to their website, started trading at their flagship store in 1912.

I haven't seen Tafts on Collins St, to be honest, so I wouldn't know. A 'net search should provide you with some answers,t hough.

Thanks, I had originally missed their website by searching from Google on Taft instead of Tafts!

 

If anybody recognises the label and can date it from that, here it is -

 

 

The label is just over 3ins. long. NeoTiger's original information means it's worth digging further!
