What pen do you leave the house with?

I've been in search of a fountain pen to carry with me as a daily driver. I keep buying less expensive pens to use outside the house until I just got a Hero 616. It's functional. Do you all do the same or say the heck with it and carry one of your premium pens?

JELL-O, IT'S WHATS FOR DINNER!

I carry one pen and one pen only Omas Paragon old style.

Yes its a pretty expensive pen but it writes so nice I just cant leave it in my display cabinet.

If not this pen I would probably use my second favorite writer my Parker VS.This pen isnt very expensive, its actualy quite cheap aound 40$-50$ but it writes like a dream.

I once lost a nice Namiki VP which, for me, was an expensive pen. Since then I carry a cheap (but good writing) no-name, an inexpensive Cross pen and a couple of Pilot Varsities that I'm not afraid to lose, loan or even give away.

I always have a notebook and my black Hero 329 filled with Pelikan black tucked away safely in my pocket.

I always (almost) have my Sheaffer pearl and black combo -- ready for anything.

I confess to being a fetishist about pens; ("Wow! look at the piston on that one!" :puddle: ) So I indulge my fetish each day by carrying three; I always have at least one of my favourite Paragons and at the moment a Parker 17 I just got on ebay as well as a Danitrio Cumlaude I got from the winedoc here on FPN. Expense doesn't come into it for me; I always carry pens I enjoy writing with and that give me aesthetic pleasure to look at, to feel and to use. If it satisfies those criteria, it gets a turn at coming with me where I go. But always a Paragon is included. ;)

I choose one from the cigar box, ink it, clip it to my shirt pocket and away I go. It's that easy. I do not have pens that I can't take out to play.

Looking for interesting Sheaffer OS Balance pens

With the exception of about 5 special pens, they all go through the rotation. I have decided to sell most of the pens that dont go through this since they largely just sit there, and it seems a waste if I could finance even a single pen that I covet.

I have a Kaigalu 228 and thin Sheaffer school pen at work, carry another Kaigalu 228 with me along with a Moleskine while out in the barbaric world. The Kaigalu doesn't leak, which is why I carry it with me. I think there's also a purple Varsity pen in my purse.

I also brought two pens into work today - a green pump-action Esterbrook with a 9956 nib - no idea what model this is - and a Parker 21 Mark II that both came from my mother. I wanted to see how they wrote and if I wanted to use them. As it turns out, I don't like the way they write and they're too fat for my fingers. Will probably give them back to her, as she'd have a fit if I sold them.

It depends on where I'm going. If I'm headed for the woods or out for a canoe ride, I usually take a P21. For shopping, it is usually a P51. To reenactments, it is dippers and quills, with a Sheaffer school pen in my gig-bag for backup (I don't let anybody see it ;) ). If I want to dress up a little, I will take my Pelikan M205 or one of the many nice-looking vintage pens I have collected and reconditioned.

Lamy Studio, Namiki VP, and, as soon as I get it back from repairs... my Lamy 2000.

I'm working on getting my Parker "51" fixed, and, once that's done, I'm going to carry that old boy around, too.

For work I like to rotate through all my pens (apart from one or two really old ones, like a 1920's Onoto....a 20's Lucky Curve), and do the rotation by manufacturer. So one week it might be Conway Stewart, another week Parker.....

But THE ONE that travels virtually everywhere with me is a little green Estie, with a 9550 nib, filled with PR Sherwood Green. It's in my pack, along with a Moleskine notebook....if I don't have my pack, then it just slips into a pocket. It's compact, great for tiny writing, and seems to be such a hard wearer - it never scratches.

I guess that depends on how one defines "premium pens." Compared to many fountain pen users/collectors I do not have any premium pens. I have a few pens that cost between $100-200, and some that are irreplaceable because of their vintage and/or sentimental value, but none that have protected status so that I cannot carry them with me.

The pen that gets carried more than any others is a 1928 Parker Duofold Junior. Why? Because it fits in any shirt pocket and writes perfectly every time the nib touches paper. Today my in-the-pocket pen is a 1950s Pelikan 400, carried for the same two reasons.

Except for the Hero 329, my really inexpensive pens (Waterman Phileas, Hero 616, Lamy Safari) are too long for the pockets on most of my shirts.

Most of my pens are in rotation and go to work with me. Yesterday I took my four Pelikans (two M200s and two M600s), a Rotring Initial, a Lamy 2000 and a Nettuno Barracuda. I already have my Dupont Vertigo-II and my Dupont Fidelio lined up for the next rotation, I haven't decided yet what else will go with them. Most likely some Sheaffers since I didn't have any in this rotation.

The only pens I have that don't come out are the ones that are awaiting refit in a larger or smaller way. I will admit to an occasional tremor when stepping out with one of the pre-1940 items stuck in my pocket, which I allay by taking something newer and bigger along to distract the pen-grabbers of the world.

I used to leave my "better" pens at home - but then I got sick of not being able to use them. So now, in the morning, I ink up, take a deep breath, and head out the door. Since I write a lot during a given day, a minimum of three, usually four are in my rotation at any given time.

I always have 5 pens with me in my case, but to answer the original question, the only one that is always with me is a burgundy Sentinel Deluxe that was the first Sheaffers Touchdown I ever repaired. So, it holds a bit of meaning to me, and has a super nib, which helps.

I rotate 4 different FPs: a VP, a Parker Sonnet, a True Writer and a Colibri. All quite replacable. I also have two Vectors for marking in my carry all. I don't really own expensive pens. I'm a user, not a collector, really.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
