My short trip to Hyderabad ofcourse included a visit to the famous Deccan Pen Stores. I happened to visit both of their outlets.

Sahib Akhter Siddiqui shifted to Hyderabad from Allahabad. His son is Halim A. Siddiqui - the owner of The Deccan Pen Stores.

He started his business with the license of Duofold and Sheaffer, which he sold door to door. In no time, he opened his first store in Abids.Founded in 1928, The Deccan Pen Store is probably the first store in the twin cities that started selling pens of international brands.

My first stop was at the Abids branch, it is on opposite side of Hollywood foot wear.

If you look on the opposite side of Hollywood foot wear, this is what you will see, and if you go straight- you can't miss their store.

When I entered the store, was greeted by Mr Zubair. One corner of the store proudly holds a black and white picture of the first store at Abids along with a poster of one of the earliest fountain pens produced by Waterman. If you look around, you will find modern days fountain pens, ball pens, paper just like any other pen store. But I was not there for those, I was/am interested in Indian handmade pens, mostly ebonite.

Noticed them behind the glass showcase. They had limited pieces of these pens. The store had Deccan Advocate, Advocate junior, Deccan Bullet.

One Deccan Advocate was with 3 in 1 filling mechanism, as requested by the customer, rest was purely ED model. The models had nib unit glued inside the section. IMG-20260221-WA00092.thumb.jpg.83f1e94c411527833deef013380f8a02.jpg

Even though I was tempted to buy one model, still I decided to visit their another outlet before I make up my mind.

Then I headed to the Ameerpet branch and was welcomed by Mr Salman. This store had few other customers as well.

It's quite spacious, has more options than the Abids branch. Noticed Deccan Advocate, Advocate junior, Bullet - just like the previous branch.

Noticed few other push cap models, both in ebonite and acrylic with mostly Wallity imprinted nib and ebonite feed.

In the meantime Mr Rashid joined the conversation. After kind of pushing them for what else they have in ebonite, they showed Deccan masterpiece in beautiful black brushed ebonite.

Also showed some desk pens, ball pens in ebonite.

This particular store has few beautiful acrylic models aswell, but the price point is quite higher than I would expect it to be.

I hope they come up with new models in near future. Also, I really hope they don't glue the nib unit along with housing inside the section.

Hopefully someday I will get to visit them

again.

Great coverage of their store 👍 Somehow these new Deccan pens never appealed to me. If I had to pick any pen from Hyderabad, Woodex will be my first choice.

Certainly.

Specially the price.

I picked up one Advocate just because it's kind of their flagship model.

When I visited the 2 stores 2 years ago, the two had a combined 4 fountain pens for sale.  All essentially identical.  They were able to find another few in storage, but that was it.  So I'm glad to know that has changed.

The Ameerpet branch certainly have more models than the Abids branch.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
