Jacques Herbin Vert Pré (Meadow Green)

Ink Review # 233

---

🧾 Description

As of the posting of this review, all J Herbin inks are now branded Jacques Herbin. This ink belongs to the 40-ink Les Perles des Encres series.

It’s a yellow-green with a neon quality. It is legible. Lubrication is slightly below average; water resistance is nil on coated paper.

As it’s not a colour I appreciate much, I’ll stop here.

 💬 Closing

This is very bright meadow green. Fun after a long cold winter, but too bright for my taste.

No fountain pens were harmed in preparing this review. ;)

Please don’t hesitate to share your experience, writing samples, or any other comments — the more the merrier. :)

Thanks, @yazeh!  While it's a very springy ink, it does look awfully neon! :D

I enjoyed the quotes, especially that first one.  It always surprises me when I meet people who've never had pets, and I never trust someone who dislikes animals (not wanting to keep one, OK; not liking the effort to care for one, OK; but actually disliking them? Nope, not gonna trust you).

The ink does have nice shading. :D  Some of the images make it look like something I might enjoy.  Others make it look kinda icky.  Thankfully, I'm content with Robert Oster Green Lime as my go-to in this color space.

Meanwhile, what was Mousey holding before the water washed him away?  I'm imagining a St. Patrick's Day theme...

Yep, still love the horsey.  Still love Makh and Essri cheering Mouse-Quin on. :D (at least, that's what it looks like to me).  And "Lift Off" is too much fun! :D  Don't use your claws to hold on, Kitty! :lticaptd:

Great review, Yazeh!

It is. I would love it in some plants. We grow a Japanese glass that has somewhat the same shade. It brightness the dark places and waves in the wind. But as an ink, it's not my cup of tea. :)

I didn't have a good experience with pets when growing up, a lot of them died (birds) and with dogs it was not the best. So I took care of plants. ;) But then cats sort of adopted me, and now I can't live without them. :)

Wow, this one’s bright! I received a canister of cartridges in my Advent calendar last year and haven’t had a chance to try them yet, so this review has given me a good preview. It really does have that springtime vibe of new shoots pushing through the cold ground. I always enjoy your art and love the color combinations you chose for these works.

I also agree with @LizEF, people who don’t like animals are not to be trusted. The communication between humans and other animal species (and even plants) is special.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint, MB Cool Grey

MontBlanc 1441 F, Monteverde Brown Sugar

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Love the chroma, and the color.  It's a spring color!  (But it rained, snowed, and sleeted yesterday.) 😹

Especially love the artwork.  And I have Vert Pré.  Always thought of it as neon.

Many Thanks to you, @yazeh, for reviewing an ink I own.

👏🏻 💝 👍🏻

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

This is the period when we crave most greenery. :)

It reminds me of Scottish/ Irish/ NZ pastures. :)

Yes it is. They remind me that you're a speck of life and need to preserve it. :(

I think it slightly brighter than the green shoots of bulbs growing here, hopefully by next week. ,😊

Well, you can ask her. 😛

If she's the child Earth and was picked out of a grove, then shouldn't she have the wisdom and patience of trees? It/ she seems to be connected to different realms, different realities. In some ways she's here and everywhere on the same time. I don't know if she also lives/ measures time differently? But I'm extrapolating that she was before Quin and will continue after with his successor. 😊

Actually, she was created for Quin, but yes, because she is of the trees, she has access to their wisdom and patience and other attributes.  And yes, her connection to the trees connects her more broadly than humans, though there appears to be some proximity required - perhaps through roots and other networks trees use to communicate... :)  I'm sure we'll learn more over time. :D

@yazeh DEFINITELY not a color for me.  But thanks as usual for the comprehensive review, and of course the delightful artwork!  (I can draw stuff if it's in front of me, but definitely am not an illustrator by ANY stretch of the imagination....)

We're on the same page. It's even harder to draw with. I'm having the same problem with Bleu azur. :D

I love greens. This one I would not write with but use for specific purposes.

Thank you for your art, review. I do like the led/daylight detail. Very clever and useful.

About liking or not liking someone, I don’t worry. My Brownie does the preview. He is so much better at reading people than me. What’s good for him is good for me. If not, then not…

i had cartridges of that, in a cute little tin.  But I always had to add a drop of stronger color.

With time and evaporation it becomes less neon. :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
