Montblanc 4810

I am not well-versed in fountain pens, so I apologize for what may be an ignorant question. I was gifted a Montblanc fountain pen many years ago that I would like to begin using again. I followed the Montblanc cleaning procedure as far as I can understand it, but it seems like the piston will not unscrew very far. I have attached a picture illustrating as far as I can unscrew the piston before it is quite tight and I don't want to force anything and end up with an unusable pen. I would appreciate any help in determining what I should do next outside of sending it to Montblanc for a repair that I cannot afford. My dad gave me the pen as a graduation present and it has not been used for many years. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Just immerse the whole pen? Thank you!

@HarpsichordMan Yes, fill the pen with as much water as possible and submerge the whole pen for a few days. You can add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the water.
