Yellow Duofold Cap

I have a Yellow Senior Duofold of the 20s, but it has a badly cracked cap that was glued by a former owner. I will like to buy a cap or to find a repair person who can fuse it professionally. Any advice or recommendations? Thanks.

Do you have a picture of the cap? The edge of the cap can be replaced and the seam hidden by the cap bands depending on the type of band. Five star pens sometimes have replacement caps.

It isn't what you'd hope to hear, but I'd recommend finding a place to put down a desk set. The taper might be harder to buy than a base. But make sure the socket matches for style and not just size.

I do a lot of plastic and celluloid repair, and cap lip replacement.  Based on experience, once any adhesive is applied, especally superglue, it can not be repaired.  I can not solvent weld because t he material is now contaminated and the plastic/celluloid will not fuse properly, bubbles are liekly to form, and blending the repair never turns out well..  Any solvent that will remove the superglue is likely to melt the celluloid as well.

Depending on the importance of the pen, you can eventually source a replacement cap. Streamline caps can be tapered from older cylindrical caps. I have yellow acrylic stock that sometimes matches the color of a mandarin, but it is acrylic rather than celluloid.

good luck.

There is a Lancastrian, an older gentleman, who has/had a huge number of Mandarin Duofolds, complete and in parts. He was a regular at northern pen shows, I cannot recall his name but someone may be able to provide contact information for a begging letter to be sent.

The caps are out there. It’s a question of desire and £$€.

With a little effort, one can track down a complete, albeit not perfect, senior mandarin for $400+.
Sad to say older collectors are selling their entire collection.

Thank you all for your comments. The pen was already glued when I bought it from a dealer and friend who passed away. I will try to source a cap, I know it would not be easy or cheap.
