Pilot Metropolitan leaking at the grip section.

Over the last two days I have noticed an ink deposit on my thumb after writing.  Researching  the problem offers issues such as a faulty converter. I know the converter is not the problem as this issue occurs if I simply dip the pen (after flushing) without the converter installed. I have removed the nib and feed, cleaned and reinstalled. I have not written with the pen yet to see if this has worked. I will report back to let you know.

In the meantime (assuming this has not worked),  I can only assume that the grip itself has a hairline crack. On inspection I can't see one.

Any suggestions or solutions.

Thanks.

Update:

It seems that the action I took to solve the problem (removing the nib and feed, and cleaning) has worked. I have just used the pen for half an hour with no leaks. 🤞

Good to know.

I haven't had any issues like that with either of my Metropolitans, but I also haven't used them for a while.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

My research to find a solution showed that  leaking at the grip is not unusual  with Metropolitans.

Thankfully my issue seemed not to be caused by a hairline crack on the grip, but simply that the nib and feed were not sitting snugly into the grip section, causing some ink to leak out.
