Zebra 901

A Zebra ballpoint utilizing a Parker-type refill format? That’s the Zebra 901 pen I just bought in steel/black plastic finish from Amazon for just over $7, and it’s a nice value for that price. I believe it’s also available at Walmart, where several colors are offered.

 

Equivalent to the Jotter or Sheaffer Sentinel, the 901 comes in stainless steel upper, and black or grey lower barrel colors. 

The included 1.0 mm black refill is a smooth and decent writer, with the option of swapping in any other Parker G2 refill on the market.

 

Couple of interesting notes: First, the boxed packaging has a pasted-on label indicating only “USA”. Not sure, but that may mean it’s made for the US, not manufactured here. Second: The plastic barrel is molded so that there is more friction as you near the fully tightened position. That might be useful, but the plastic can wear over time.

 

Another EDC choice worth a look.

This the first I’ve seen the 901. How long has this model been in the US?

At least you have refill options to go with. Who knows how long it will remain so affordable in this country.

I must have overlooked this model. Well, I have mine now. The barrel friction band is the first I’ve seen on a ballpoint. Interesting design.
