Ronson history?

Black16

Recommended Posts

I've seen some mentions of this brand being somehow infamous here and there in the "we don't talk about Ronson" manner, but no one ever provided any details or facts. Their fountain pens are to be honest not bad at all and I've seen some mentions of them using Japanese manufacturers and MB even for their promo pens. So is there any place to gather some info about why is the brand so disliked and may be something about their history in general? I have their German pen and another one I assume is German-made as well 'cause of the Bock nib tho I saw them sold as Ronson England pens a lot. But anyway my question is about the history and the facts, I hope someone will enlighten me :D

I'm assuming you are not talking about these.

My understanding is that (correct me if I'm wrong) they are not a pen manufacturer as such but a company that makes lighters and is now part of zippo,

Clip activates the lighter in this case with the top of it opening up and closing to put out the flame

Zippo site has a small paragraph about each of their acquired brands and history around them.

Hello @shalitha33! Sorry for the late replay and thank you for answering. I'm to be honest not sure. I'm talking about such Ronsons, I've seen mostly them here on FPN and on other sites.

1. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/271185-hello-experts-what-about-this-ronson-fountain-pen/

2. https://www.peytonstreetpens.com/ronson-fountain-pen-germany-1970-80s-green-marble-w-gt-14k-medium-nib-user-grade-works-well.html

I have two similar pens, just one in green colour with Bock nib and another one similar to the gold nibbed but with a steel gold plated nib and fully metal barrel and cap. Sorry I can't take proper pics as they're disassembled for restoration. I was sure it is the same company but now I have doubts... And yes I've seen a lot of comments about Ronson being not in favour because something about their history is not "ethical"?? And yet I was unable to find at least any clues about that history. It is why I'm asking here now.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
