Hongdian C3 Clones

Recommended Posts

My first thought was ‘New colors for the C3!’ But these are Yongsheng 3638 pens, or so the ad says. At the same time, search on AliExpress finds zero C3 fountain pens (still available on eBay or Etsy).

Yongsheng is the transliteration of the Cantonese name of Wing Sung, I believe. And although the images below are low rez, I think that’s a Wing Sung nib, but otherwise this pen appears to be identical to the Hongdian C3. Anyway, new colors!

Wingsung 3xxx, made in jiangxi.

文港镇? If so, the information matches some of the rumors I have read.

license till 2028

Both? Or 6xx only? That's something I've been wondering about for a while.

And, is there any possibility that a manufacturer other than Junlai will be licensed to manufacture 6xx in the future (After 2029.)?

1. Wingsung 3xxx in Jiangxi ain't rumours, just look at the price tag, cny20 for a piston filler. Simply amazing!

Jiangxi is also oem base for resin-wood pens for quite a few renowned global bands, at insanely low price.

The only wood pen I regard at fair price and owned afterwards, is Jinhao 9036/9056. And a Uni 2005 mechanical pencil, simply for aesthetics, but that will be it.

Same Hermes bag game is played in there. Hermes bag is almost finished in China for $600/piece, ship to France, polish the final metal parts, according to EU rule it is officially proudly MAKD IN FRANCE for starting $60000/piece.

2. I don't know. Wait and see. Get the wallet ready and hope Globalisation keeps on track.

I see current Junlai brand is prominent enough to stay away from Wingsung.

Junlai is private own entity, while Wingsung brand ownership is a state own entity. Never an example of these two types getting along with each other well since 1958. History just repeats itself.

Hearing this, it was as if a fog had lifted in front of me and I could see the entirety of the modern Chinese fountain pen industry.

I have viewed an article with some photos of the factory, although only one factory.

It was a bit of a relief.

I was afraid that if Junlai Green stuck to the Wingsung brand, there would be confusion with 3xxx, which would work against them.

Junlai Wingsung is for sure taking a much more premium quality and his Jiangxi counterparts.

I highly recommend Junlai ebonite models, best bang of bucks of entire fountain pen industry.

I am saying this basing on factual finds.

Here are some shots from Junlai warehouse: https://www.instagram.com/p/DJtRm_APWQo/?img_index=2&igsh=bHpmMWtpaHM5M2k2

Junlai doesn't mention a signal word on her supplier of ebonite. So I find out it is from SEM Germany Junlai made purchase from. Only SEM ebonite delivers a final high shine polish as such.

The quotation price of SEM rod is also open information. Insanely expensive.

So, it's not that difficult to work out the raw material price of each ebonite pen.

Plus, Junlai ebonite is in piston, which requires more labour hours/process than too boring convertors from other makers.

So,

1. Rolls Royce grade ebonite from Deutschland;

2. complication of piston. But the price of Junlai ebonite is severely underrated at the moment, just judge by all the specification.

3. On contrary, other ebonite pens on the market, with inferior specifications, but at much higher price. Or simply due to its low efficiency managing the production cost? Made in an expensive country, under name of craftsmanship, is a typical consumerism fallacy. How difficult could it be in 2025 to make an ebonite piston? Do these brands deserve that much premium on intangible brand value? You need to convince yourself on this point. My pick will be Junlai ebonite with normal grinding nib.

Maybe I should start a new thread to keep this C3 thread not that much misdirected. People click in here to learn a C3, end up ordering a Junlai ebonite.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
