New Le Man 100

Hi all,

I just purchased a NIB black Le Man 100, medium. I also purchased a red stripped Pelikan m 800 last night, and was going to get a black  Pelikan m 800 as well, but the Le Man just won out.  The fact it came out in 1983, my birth year, spoke to me, and also , am finding I am definitely a Waterman man . I feel I am all rounded out now, i would love to have a backup NOS Edson So I can use mine without so such paranoia and I would love to see a Edson Boucheron in my wife’s hands, but I am pretty much set.

How do you guys like your black Le Man 100s?  Was it the “Flagship” WM pen until the Edson came out? I got this NOS or NIB model for 250 which seems very reasonable .

Mine's been married to Vert Empire for a long time now, perfect combination, has one of my better nibs, which with by now 79 pens says something. Very solid pen, I was lucky to also get some of its ancestors which use the same nib, what I seem to remember is the original Gentleman wrongly called Strong, the Gentleman 33 and 44. The Man 100 dries out more slowly than any of them.

I love my Le Man 100. I also have an Opera with a broad nib. It was my grail pen.  I would love to find a Harlequin. 😍😍

I have two Man 100s and two Operas. These are all beautiful pens, but my chief complaint is that continued use results in deterioration of the plating on the section ring. I use these pens sparingly because of this.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thanks for your reply. I wonder why that is? Mine is a brand new one and does not have any deterioration. I hope I can avoid it

I know this is a silly question, but the rusting happens from dipping the pen in ink? Should I use cartridges only ? Or use a Q-tip with oil after inking the pen to prevent rust?

Both of these are reasonable solutions. I would use cartridges.

Pen arrived- and I love it. Understated, elegant. I filled its converter with a syringe ……I know it has its weak point with the rusting ring , but I really love this pen. I think I need an Ópera now ! Waterman’s may have their eccentricities, but I just love their designs.

Oh, I'm like you, a fan of the Waterman Man 100 because it came out in 1983, my year of birth too. I think it's a fantastic pen, probably my favorite of the modern models. I have three black Man 100s with nibs marked 1883-1983, in medium, broad and left oblique broad. I also have a green Patrician in L nib marked IDEAL, which is a treat.

I have told myself that if I want another 100 I can only have an Opera or a Patrician. Not both. Some days the Opera wins out others the Patrician (blue) . If you had to choose between the Opera and Patrician which one would you take?

I had an Opera, I have a Patrician. I sold the Opera, after looking at it so much, when I got it in my hands, it didn't do anything for me. That's just my experience, I think you should trust your intuition and go for the one that comes up for sale with the nib you like best, because nibs count too ;)

I think it’s going to have to be the Opera. It’s so elegant. And I do love the Opera ….

I have an Opera with a broad nib. Gorgeous pen. I'm so afraid I'm going to lose it or drop it or damage it that I rarely ink it. It has pride of place in my display.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
