Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: KWZ Azure #5

This is review #331 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This ink was gifted to me by a generous FPGeek. Most of the online images are a lighter shade than this, which makes me wonder if it's suffered evaporation. On the other hand, some images, which I think may be newer (from "younger" vendors) look similar. I'm not sure what to make of it. Sampling recommended before getting a bottle!

I also had this ink back in ~2016 (also a gifted sample) and it was a bit more muted, maybe with a very slight lean toward teal. I had absolutely no other inks that came close to this in color, so the comparisons are the 2016 version and popular inks that might help someone place the color of this. It's a medium blue blue, dark where it sheens / shades.

The microscope smear wasn't terribly interesting. Cleaning was easy with plain water, but did take several extra flushes due to how concentrated the ink was.

Zoomed in photo (Pretty close.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are close to what I see.)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:". Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 321µm. With 331 inks measured, the average line width is 297µm.) (You can see a little of the red sheen.)

Thanks for another fun and exciting review @LizEF

This colour is definitely not for me, at least for writing purpose, though, I'm sure it would be fun to draw with :D

I really loved the idea of a "cursed pen", really insightful. Often times, I wonder if some vintage items might bear the burden of the past/ or their owners.  🙀

Thanks for not shying away from your creativity and bringing light to this chilly spring day 🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, it's not that exciting - too blue blue. ;)  Would probably wash into a nice sky or water, though...

:) Perhaps next time we return to the store, Yaz will tell us what he learned about this pen and whether he was able to find someone to remove the curse. :D

Azure? I'va always associated the name with a pale blue spring sky. Am I wrong? Maybe that's why the muted yowls.  🙀

Sheen, Like.  👍🏻 Long dry times? Not pour moi. Color? Like a lot of the blues I already have. Story? Well, that's the stuff! I loved it.  New pens, books, ink.  Yay.  🖌

@LizEF, today I'm late to the party.  ButTuesdays are always magically enthralling, thanks to you. 💝

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:)  Nope, you're not wrong.  The color name doesn't make a lot of sense.  Maybe it's a layer of five azures on top of each other, hence darker...

:)  Yeah, I'm afraid this one doesn't really stand out for me.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
