Lamy Safari Scarlet

Lamy has a new regular edition of the Safari named Scarlet.

As can be seen, the pen is anything but scarlet. It is a nice plum color, which I think is better on a pen than scarlet. It has a matte finish. The medium nib is black, but I changed it for a 1.5 stub.

Whoever named this "scarlet" clearly has no idea what the color scarlet is. This is plum colored, like I said before. No Goulet, it isn't purple, either. It is plum. Remember the old Parker 51 Plum? While this isn't as dark, it is the same color range. The pictures don't really show it well, for some reason.

Anyway, nice pen and writes well.

I still think that its colour ought to have been called 'Claret'....

Whatever they call it, I likes the photos of it :)
I am hoping to see one in person to confirm my opinion before ordering one (I already have Safaris in five colours - or six if one includes my Vista).

Claret can be a good name, and it can be the first of a series with wine names, from tempranillo to some dark Bordeaux old wine.

It’s definitely muscadine, unless you are thinking of the green muscadines, then it’s not, it’s the other one.
Yeah, it’s muscadine.

It would be interesting to see a side-by-side between this and the original (2016) version of Dark Lilac (which is the first Safari I ever bought).  When I realized I *could* get used to the triangular section, I originally planned to go "silly" and get a pink one, but then saw one on a table at a pen show and was going, "Meh...."  Then they came out with the Dark Lilac SE and it was All Over™....

Now, between Safaris, al-Stars and one LX, I have 11 Lamy pens (all being SE editions except for the LX, and that one I got when their old US distributor was having a closeout sale, so I basically paid about the same amount as for a Safari....

Thanks!  I was afraid that the Scarlet would be too close in color to the Dark Lilac.  But seeing them side by side, even though they're definitely different, I suspect that I can pass on the new one....

One might call this a true maroon instead of scarlet.

That is what i was thinking, it is right on the edge of a red burgundy color having too much brown to be considered burgundy.

A better color comparison would have been with the Dark Purple regular edition Al Star or the shiny 2 tones Safari with a matte magenta grip.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

An idea for the next generation of special edition Al-star.

I love the Scarlet color and have one en route to me right now.

I'm planning on inking it with Diamine Syrah.

I keep one in my notepad wallet. Can't really explain why I think burgundy and olive work together.

I thought about not buying more Lamy fps soon and I tried not to look at these darkish wine ones especially, but now I will certainly write it down into my Must Have Pens massive list...

Also @trenchfoot I totally agree with you on this combo! My EDC pens are old Champion made of olive celluloid and Mentmore Diploma with dull olive snakeskin pattern, always filled with maroon/burgundy/wine-tinted inks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
