Hey ya'll!

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself after lurking around for a bit. I'm quite the thrifter, though don't let that name fool you into thinking I'm grumpy – it's just a playful nod to my memorable last name. Back in 1978, my mom took a Calligraphy class, and at the tender age of 8, I tagged along. The intuitive instructor noticed my eagerness to try and kindly lent me a pen. That was the moment my love affair with pens began. Ever since then, I've been on the hunt for that elusive 1970s flex nib. I've scoured estate sales, yard sales, and thrift stores, but it wasn't until this year that I finally caved and treated myself to some "real" fountain pens. I am here to learn and soak in all the knowledge!

Welcome. Have you tried Osmiroid pens? They were really popular back then. I wonder if it was the Copperplate nib you used.

Best wishes on your elusive quest for a righteous 70s flex nib, I am sure a few on here can help you out.

 

My work takes up too much energy to do much more than simply enjoy writing with the best of my 40 years accumulation of fountain pens.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
