Help me find a home for a Pilot #30 nib

Hi guys,

so I recently got a spare Pilot #30 nib with the feed.

The problem is now getting the rest of the pen.

It seems difficult to source a Custom Urushi body, and I'm not so keen on it. First for price reasons, second because I think it will be too girthy for me.

One of my favorite pens from an ergnomic standpoint is a Pelikan M1000, but my ProGear Kop which is a bit fatter is already too girthy. Both are dwarfed by the Custom Urushi.

So, what does that leave? I know that Flexible Nib Factory has a Bock 380 housing that will fit this combination.

Shipping to Europe is quite pricey, so the housing alone will set me back 80€. I'll get it if there is no other option, but obviously, bang-for-buck ratio here isn't good.

So what I need:

- Ideally a body that will hold the nib and feed without the use of a dedicated housing.

- Or at least a body where the housing can go into.

I would like to avoid converters if possible. Everything else is cool: eyedropper or piston filler, or if there is no alternative also a vac filler.

This means that the Jinhao X159 and the Ranga No.5 are out, because both are using converters.

Demonstrator would be preferred, too. So basically an Opus88 body that holds #8 sections instead of #6.

Or maybe it's possible to install it into a M1000? It would be quite expensive getting an M1000 just for this though.

Do you have any ideas?

All Ranga pens can be eyedroppered, but you'll still need a (Bock/JoWo) housing.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Thanks, that's good to know. I am also not so keen on them because they seem to have a pretty big stepdown - I don't get along well with those. I'd like the grip section to be only slightly thinner than the main body.

I have a shorter, no clip Majestic which tapers - no stepdown. FNF Bock housing. But it's in MB149 section width territory because #8 nib.

Ah, thanks, I just looked at it and it seems nice. I mean, my Pelikan M1000 is the same size as a MB149 nib, so the section width per se should be fine.

The Majestic is a big pen. I asked Mr Kandan to shorten the barrel to 90mm.  I chose that model beacuse I prefer a flat-top. There are other models that will acommodate a #8 nib.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I posted it already, but here is the original thread. The story is finished, the Ranga Big Boi has arrived and is doing a nice job with the Pilot #30.

What a lovely nib! Now I want to try the bigger sizes, but it seems the solitary #30 nib was a pretty unique find. Oh, well...

If anyones knows where I could buy a solitary #30 M or B nib, let me know though :D

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
