Diamine Dark Forest

This is a dependable dark green/ teal, part of Diamine's 150th anniversary inks

 

It’s a very well-behaved dark green, especially with a Japanese Ef nib, which was quite pleasant. 

From M onwards the colour changes from a dark green to a dark teal (shading appears also from M nibs onwards, despite what the scan wants you to believe.  

 

And it doesn’t like copy paper. 

It's a great ink to do washes, surprisingly creating a teal effect, even though I don't see any blue in the chroma:

I couldn’t fill the Nib creaper, so it is not a real representative of a flex nib, and finally I stumbled on my Tomoe River notebook (don’t ask) hence the major smudging, which I believe shows the range of the ink

and finally an art work. As you saw with the quotes, the name of the ink, conjured the Enchanted Wood, by Enid Blyton. This is a rendition of the Magic Farway tree, by my child's mind.

·      Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Lamy (EF/F/M/B, BB, 1.1), Nib creaper dipped

·      What I liked: Writing with M/ B nibs. Doing washes. 

·      What I did not like: Nothing much. 

·       What some might not like: If you use copy paper, it’s not for you. 

·      Shading: M nibs onwards.  

·      Ghosting: Yes, on cheap paper. 

·      Bleed through: Yes, on cheap paper.

·      Flow Rate: Nice and wet. 

·      Lubrication: Generous. 

·      Nib Dry-out: Did not notice. 

·      Start-up:  I had some difficulties when switching nibs. 

·      Saturation:  Nice and dark. 

·      Shading Potential: M /B nibs.  

·      Sheen: Did not notice.  

·      Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Did not notice. 

·      Nib Creep / “Crud”: Did not notice.

·      Staining (pen): No. 

·      Clogging: Did not notice.

·      Cleaning: Easy

·      Water resistance: Inexistant. 

·      Availability: 40 ml bottles / Cartridges

Great! Your review ... but also the ink... (duh).....

It's the blue in it which turns me on. Reminds me of the long-gone* Montblanc White Forest (which also had a real Christmas-tree aroma!) Yummy!!!

The chroma may not show blue but I like it!  I like every color that shows.

 

Ah, poor Kitteh.  Despite Mousie's gallant umbrella efforts, he almost fades away.  The Magic Farway Tree looks half-friendly, half-spooky.  Now I want to read the book.

 

Fan of green inks, too, but I'm on an InkATorium for the moment.  Thanks, @yazeh, for a look at this ink.  It's freezing today and the chroma makes me think of the real spring.  If it ever decides to come.

@yazeh Thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.  Like Sailor Kenshin, I'm not seeing much in the way of teal either (except when you used the really broad nib).

Also now curious to see how this compares to really dark greens like Edelstein Olivine (which I really like), but the lack of water resistance of Dark Forest will likely make it a deal-breaker for me.

I haven't read it in a long, long time. But as child it was magical and took me far far away, to land of wonder

We had a snow storm a week ago, now it's just chilly. Spring is on it's way, sometime by May, if it may

You're right. The teal comes out, the moment you do washes. It becomes a different ink

I wouldn't know it. It seems to me looking at swatches, this is more of a dark teal as opposed to Olivine. If you ave a good water resistant green, I wouldn't  bother would this one, unless you want to do washes

Thank you, @yazeh, for another fun review!  I'm afraid the color doesn't do anything for me, but the drawings are what I enjoy most regardless of color.   Swatch-forest is watching you with kitty eyes.   Poor water-test kitty - there's no saving him now.   And I absolutely love your tree - perfect for this ink.

I agree fully with everything @LizEF mentioned about your review - however, I love how the colour looks on Rhodia, on TR68 and on Hammermill paper.

Great review of a great ink… what I love about this ink is that it walks a path between colour lines. It’s still a green, but with a little push it could so easily turn into a teal. Lovely… I like inks that show such complexity.

 

That magic tree is fantastic… stuff for nightmares. I can feel it reaching out with its branches trying to grab me… brought me right back to that spooky tree scene from the original Poltergeist movie…

Thanks. 🙏The original tree, inspired from the book is quite benevolent though it has some quirky and not so pleasant characters, and even a few unpleasant goblins worlds. Though they are unpleasant at a children's level

Been using this ink for a long time now. Similar to F&C Dark Moss but red sheen as opposed to Moss' gold. Currently have in in an Optima green/blue Auroloide.
