Hello. I read you on google

Hello people. I was often searching for fountain pen topics, info on various nibs and options in the market. I always found this forum in the search results, so I decided to join it.

My interest in fountain pen began when I decided to try them, and I found it a topic that satisfies my nerd instincts, because I like generally to tinker with tech things.

I noticed a renewed interest in calligraphy and online you find plenty info about flex nibs and such, lots people try to use a fountain pen for drawing too. I did try the same thing, with some mixed results. Perhaps flex nibs are a current thing fad, or maybe the renewed interest in calligraphy will push big brands to make flex pen. In any case I liked the topic and I find flex nibs to be very enjoyable.

So that's about all. I was reading your discussions and I decided to join this forum, hopefully to share some info and findings.

Welcome to FPN.

What sorts of pens do you have or plan to buy?

I purchased some pen. One pen with jowo threads that I have is the leonardo MM matte black. I got a hongdian M2 that I use to test nibs of jinhao that I cut in half to see if they flex. I obviously started out with zebra G and I created a feed and housing for jowo threads that uses zebra G. After having used the nib+feed I have to say I do not appreciate how scratchy the zebra G is, even if it can do very thin hairlines which is a positive.

Now I ordered a "semiflex" from FPNibs that I did not try just yet. But seems pretty flexible. It arrived at my door just 10 minutes ago. I will test it on the leonardo.

These are all the options I have at the moment. I will probably purchase also kanwrite ultraflex titanium and gold FPR in the future but I want to see what I can do just with these options.

I have other pen but I was unable to identify them. I have some old watermans that are given in the military, some old lamy safaris (older model), some jinhaos and wingsung pen. I also had a faber castell loom that I sold.

Probbly next purchase I will do is a pilot 912 with "FA" nib. But I think I will have to make another feed for it, because I read online poor reviews of the stock feed. Other than that, I am not expert and Im planning to learn more in the future. For now I just use what I have at the moment.

For a coincidence the nib I ordered from fpnibs arrived today. And I ordered it with the feed flow hack set to "high". I wanted to see how compared to the stock jowo since the "flow hack" consists only in a tiny cut of the feed. I do see bit more improvement, not great. But the overall performance doesnt makes me want to print a new feed, it should be sufficient as is. The regrind made by FPnibs is amazin, its very smooth but also very thin. So the guy made a good job grinding this nib. And the flexibility is quite decent, just that here I did not want to push it too much also considering my current feed does not even allows it. Overall its a solution that is worthy of consideration. Maybe I will try getting the other feed flow hack setting and the ebonite feed to see if they delete entirely the railroad issue. For now I am OK and I would also recommend his nib seller from spain. I enjoy the nib more than the zebra G that was scratchy. Now I can have thin but also smooth lines.

Your new nib is an unbranded "flex" nib made by Jowo.   Just wait until you get your hands on a full flex nib by Waterman or Wahl - then you'll understand what FLEX  is!

thanks. I wanted to purchase a waterman I found for good price on ebay. but I have some restraint due to the fact I have no idea how the nib will do with repeated usages of everyday drawing. And it would cause me pain and distress to ruin a very good gold nib such as the one in the waterman. And if I ruin it, people who can repair it are rare to find.

I think a better option for me is to rely on consumables: zebra G. Or semi-consumable nibs, such as cheap jowos or kanwrite nibs or FPR steel. So at least if I ruin one for an accident I should be able to get replacements and they dont cost much money.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
