LAMY Studio Glossy Rose vs Matte Rose

I got this Lamy Studio glossy rose at Appelboom. I had the matte version with a steel nib. The rose tone is a bit too pale. So I decided to go for the glossy one too. Lamy3copy.jpg.fa8facd13fc2ca8783b1c911a76b3df1.jpgLamy2copy.jpg.1cb6827b64b74062474defed2d2970ce.jpg

Today I got it and it is the exact same rose tone as the matte one, only glossy. The shine somehow makes it better, plus the nib writes beautifully. I am happy I bought it.

Looking around the internet I could not find any other information or reviews of this pen, not even at this forum. Also, it wasn't for sale anywhere else but Appelboom. Lamy is one of my favorite fountain pen brands, so since it seems there is no information about this glossy rose Lamy I wanted to share a couple of pictures of them.

Lamy has offered gloss and matt color variants of their pens for many years, as have other pen companies.  I don’t understand the issue.  Choices are good.  I like choices.

I like the choices too. I discovered glossy Lamy pens with the dark brown one, and then I saw the piano, but I thought it was too expensive at the time. Finally I got a black forest glossy one too.

However, I never found the same color in glossy and matte, or at least not the exact match. These rose studios are exactly the same color, intensity and all, only the gloss added to one of them.

The other two glossy studios that I have, the dark brown and the black forest also have like little speckles on them, difficult to define and very subtle. If any of you have them you know what I am talking about. But I don't see any of that in the rose, only that it is glossy.

I have the dark brown Lamy Studio, and I know what you mean. The speckles are not sparkling, so yes, subtle as you described @GigiT  At first, I wiped the pen expecting it was dust, and it wasn’t.

The two versions of the Rose Studio are an interesting pair. I didn’t know Lamy did this, yet am not surprised.

lolol I can perfectly imagine myself trying to remove the dust too. But I had the advantage of reading about the pen before I got it. I don't remember if it was in this forum or somewhere else, and it was mentioned that it had some kind of very subtle sparkle to the paint. The black forest has that too, but it is even more subtle than the brown one. I don't see that in the rose, but it could also be that the other two are dark and this one is a very light color and does not reflect those speckles.

I came across it last night, when I was browsing what LAMY's official store in Australia has to offer, while there was a 20%-off site-wide sales promotion in play.

(When I checked just now, the sale has ended.)

The rose matte is easy to find, at least here in the US. But the glossy rose is the one that I only found at Appelboom. I couldn't even find any mention of it anywhere else.

Ah, OK. Sorry I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying.

No need to apologize. You were actually providing good information and a link with a discount. That's always welcome, so thank you for that.

Talking about discounts, Appelboom has a 10% discount for FPN members if you enter the code "friend". I found that out a while ago reading posts here at forum.

I asked Appelboom about the glossy one and received this answer:

"It is indeed a special edition which was offered to only a few stores. One of them was Appelboom."

Oh, that explains a lot. That's why I couldn't find it anywhere else. The other few stores that Appelboom refers to are probably also located in Europe.

Thank you so much for sharing that information.

Doesn't the glossy pen also come with a 14k nib? That would account for the difference.

  • 1 month later...

The gloss was made for the Chinese market exclusively, but a few were released for Europe

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
