Jinhao converter needed, but which?

Recommended Posts

Help please... I have (well, my grandchildren have) a Jinhao X750 and an Jinhao 450 to introduce them to fountain pens. These use the same converter but being a rather cheap item, one has broken (the rubber washer wrinkled up and split). I bought a pack of five cheap converters from China supposedly for Jinhao but they didn't fit. However, I did manage to use part of one to cobble together a working converter with part of the original Jinhao one.

Time to source a converter for when the other one needs replacing.

I tried a Waterman converter as I was told it was universal and would fit; it didn't.

I bought a better converter that said it was universal and would fit Jinhao; it didn't.

Cross converters and the one I have in my Montblanc Starwalker won't fit.

Rather than keep on trying at random converters that say they'll fit but actually don't, can anyone recommend a converter that they know for certain fits a Jinhao 450 and/or 750 please?

I can't be the only one needing this item.

Thank you

Jinhao likes to copy the Lamy nib and feeds.  Try a Lamy Z26, their "generic" converter for "pens not listed."

Thank you both for your speedy response.

The cheap ones I bought were 2.6mm but the 'shoulder' was too fat to let the converter enter the section. I'll look out for both another supplier of 2.6mm and ask about the outer diameter of the converter barrel and for the Lamy Z26.

Jinhao/Gullor makes cartridges which are refillable with pipette or blunt syringe.

Sometimes, standard International carts will fit Jinhao pens, sometimes not.

It's a pain.  I have a number if converters, and the ones that fit a certain Jinhao pen stay with the pen.  Since yours broke, I'd say try anything, and keep trying.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

But are you using Jinhao-branded 2.6mm-bore converters as the “cheap ones”?

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Those cheap ones were said to fit Jinhao pens, but would not fit the 450 or 750. I pulled the original, damaged, converter from the pen apart and replaced the broken top part with the top half of the cheapie I'd bought so I ended up with a functioning converter that fitted the pen.

It does seem a bit hit-and-miss though. Still, the pens were inexpensive and the grandchildren like using them. Once they're used to the idea of fountain pens, I can possibly provide something a bit more 'up market' if they would like.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
