Dear FP Community,

this Pelikan 100 rubber is discolored, as it got wet for a while.

Is there any way to restore its original black color?

By the way...is it a Pelikan 100N oder a Pelikan 100?

Kind regards

It's a Pelikan 100. For more description of the different models, the Pelikan Collectibles website is great.

Too bad about the hard rubber, it really doesn't agree with water. 'Oxidised' hard rubber can be turned black again, but this comes at a cost. There are some methods to blacken oxidised hard rubber - you can search this site, there are many threads on the issue - but these methods are still controversial. Alternatively, you can polish it, but this carries the risk of removing the engravings.

Dear Nethermark,

thank you for the quick reply.

Would i polish it with a light abressive as a Micromesh and then use a towel with Polishing paste? Do you have any recommendations how the polishing process can be done?

I mostly polish when there are no engravings, or polish around the engravings. I normally only use micro mesh to polish. However, I have sometimes used polishing paste from Micro Gloss applied with a toothbrush to polish engravings, but only on pens that do not have great value, or where the oxidisation is so bad, it really affects the value of the pen. Beware that using a polishing paste after using micro mesh can cause the hard rubber to ‘oxidise’ again.
