Is Edelstein Tanzanite being discontinued?

It is out of stock almost everywhere and some sites list it as discontinued.  I know that 4001 blue black is returning to the US and wonder if the two are related.  Does anyone have any insight?  My web search has not yielded anything specific.  Thanks.

No, haven't heard about this until seeing your post just now.  I hope Tanzanite ISN'T being discontinued, because I like it a lot -- and sometimes I might NOT want the extra maintenance of an IG ink, even though I also like 4001 Blue Black a lot as well -- which I had to get last spring from Cult Pens because even though it was supposedly now being sold in the US again, it was OOS most places I looked....

This doesn’t answer your question. It is in stock on Amazon. I looked at Pelikan’s website, and it’s still listed there in Edelstein inks.

well the good news is that I found something else I like.  GvFC Midnight Blue.  I did see Tazanite avail on Amazon.  Nibs.com shows it as "no longer available" and it's out of stock at many other locations.  That was what initiated my question.

Years ago, meaning when the Edelstein inks were first issued, I mixed Edelstein Sapphire and Tanzanite to make and ink something like Asa-Gao: a solid purplish blue.

I feel like Amazon requires a good amount of digging before you can rely on it as a source of ink trends. The Tanzanite that is currently being featured on Amazon isn't being sold by Pelikan. It is being sold by Altman Luggage Co. Since they are primarily a luggage company it is possible that their stock ink doesn't sell as quickly as a pen store's. Maybe they'll get restocked; maybe they won't. That is very different from Amazon having a regular supply.

Goulet Pens has Edelstein Tanzanite in bottles and cartridges. So does Fountain Pen Hospital. Vanness has the 4 ml samples, but they have sold out the 50 ml standard bottles. Anderson Pens has the 50 ml bottles.

actually Goulet shows sold out and it is not on the FPH website at all.  Not that it matters at this point because I decided to go with GvFC Midnight Blue.  :)

OK -- May I divert this thread slightly, now that the original question has been answered?  OK, so then it's quiz time:

Anyone know how or why Tanzanite derived its name?  (No, <don't> go diving into Google to ask!  That's far too easy...)  😉

Correct!  And Tsavorite has a very similar crystal, I believe, but in a green colour.  Tanzanite came into Nairobi first c.1968 and I saw a sample of it quite soon after in a jewellery/mineral shop in Nairobi.  The interesting thing about the tanzanite crystal is that when you view it one way it is a beautiful blue-ish/purple-y colour; but when turned through ninety degrees, the (unpolished) crystal appears brown.  They both come from northern Tanzania.

My best friend and I used to pick up garnets by the handful along the roadside across the Athi plains in Kenya, too.  Anyway, excuse the sidetrack...

Anyone have any further updates on the availability of Tanzanite?

I did a quick Amazon search just now.

Cult Pens in the UK seems to have it in stock.  Goldspot Pens has cartridges, but not bottles at the moment.  Ditto for Goulet Pens and Pen Boutique. Jet Pens also only seems to have cartridges.  Vanness only seems to have samples at the moment.

Streetfair on eBay has bottles in stock and if you buy more than 1 you get a discount per bottle.  But I've had mixed experiences with them.  The Online Pen Company seems to have bottles in stock, but I don't know anything about that vendor (and a four pack of bottles from them seems to be OOS).  Haven't checked at other places like Anderson Pens -- I was just doing a quickie Amazon search.

Anderson says "Call for Availability," but it says that for quite a few of the Edelstein inks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
