Looks like an Esterbrook?!?!

I recently bought a cache of pens. One of the pens looks exactly like an Esterbrook J model. Has a steel nib with the inscription:

Hawaiian 2556

inscribed on the barrel I find:

Hawaiian

FOUNTAIN PEN

I’ve done an exhaustive google search about this pen and could find nothing.  Was it a commemorative pen made by Esterbrook for the statehood of Hawaii?  Just a guess on my part. If anyone can shed light on this unusual find please do not hesitate!!  Thanks  IMG_9288.thumb.jpeg.d0f375153f98e8f73ec3f7fcb9b5335e.jpegIMG_9287.thumb.jpeg.008ae1aa657ecee12ce25950f756a1d7.jpeg

Interesting.  I don't think I've ever seen that sort of material used on an Esterbrook, (looks more like that for a Silver Pearl Parker Vacumatic).  The clip and cap band do look somewhat similar to those on vintage Esterbrook J series pens (but I was just looking at two recent acquisitions I had at hand and both of them say

E

S

T

E

R

B

R

O

O

K

along the lenth of the clip (yeah, like this).  The number on the nib below the text does sort of suggest Esterbrook -- at least for that)

What sort of fill system does it have?  All of mine are J series pens in various sizes, and are lever-fillers.

Wondering if it was some sort of custom-made pen that was some sort of tourist shop gift or if there is a hotel called "Hawaiian" and that the pen was made for it for employee or customer use.  Because I have been unable to find a "Hawaiian" brand pen....

Good to know.  But I still wonder about the barrel and cap material, because it really DOES look like that for a Silver Pearl Vac Major.

I have a few Japanese homages to Vacumatics which have very similar colors and patterns as vacs. More than one fooled me in eBay auction lots.

I love this pen!   I have a few of those Japanese copies - Masterlook, Whymper, Howard.  The one you have beats them all.   I like how even the fake nibs have the correct numbers on them.

You mean that the numbers match those nib sizes for the real Esterbrook nibs?  Interesting....

Very interesting find. I love the vacumatic look too. Never heard of a "Hawaiian" pen or nib company. I'm not counting the local koa turners or Kanilea Fountain pens (which is not made in Hawai'i).  Mahalo (thank you).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
