Some pics of very rare vintage Pelikan accessories from the late 1930s

Lucked out and was able to purchase two very rare items for my vintage Pelikan collection: a retail luxury pen case meant for the 100 or very early (1938) 100N and the accompanying mechanical pencil set (Etui R), and a NR. 4 pen stand, both in matching silver-mottled black bakelite.

Since their manufacturing was limited to just few years (or perhaps to 1938 only) they are exceedingly rare finds.

Those silvery bits do not translate that well in photos but they do glimmer in light very nicely.

I already had three different variants of the pen stand in black, so this was a really wonderful, and functional addition to my desk (yes, I like to keep them in use).

Wow, wonderful, and the old Pelikan logo, was quite some time since I last saw it.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Didn't know such existed. Very good finds.:notworthy1:

Thank you all for the comments! I will try to do a better "State of the collection" type photo shoot of those and other interesting things in my vintage Pelikan collection for the "Family Photos of Your Flock" thread since it might be a while until new items will be added to it.

The outside left mechanical pencil came with my Pelikan 100 CN nibbed fountain pen.

It didn't feel like bakelite but i wasn't looking for that. Don't know and it's iGVDCfg.jpg

The one in the middle is NOS 200 set, and the outside right one is a 450-mid 50's to I don't know when....it came with a 455BP and 400nn.

In the time when free drugstore advertised ball points were coming in over here $28 at 3 DM to 1 or $42 at 2DM to $1.00 was a lot of money.

The end slice shows more of the color, '30's Pelikan mechanical pencil.

Thanks! Yup, bakelite, in the brochures it was called “Kunstharz”, which basically translates to synthetic resin.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
