Vintage fountain pen #5 nib substitute

Hi, everyone here.

I'm looking for a nib replacement for my vintage NuPoint fountain pen.

I found a nice Art Deco style Goldfield Ringtop fountain pen on eBay. It was a brand called NuPoint and it had the perfect look in the picture. I received the package today and it was as beautiful as I saw in the picture! I immediately peeled off the rust inside the cap and the barrel and removed the hardened latex sac. It's very shiny now, and it's equipped with a new silicone sac.

There was just one problem. I've already checked the product description, but the nib is not in good condition. The iridium is almost worn out and it's a very rough write. (I heard NuPoint wasn't a good fountain pen company.)

 

The goal at the time I ordered this was to remove the original nib and fit the extra vintage Faber-Castel Osmia 883 nib I have. But the moment I opened the package, I realized it was a wrong plan. This is too small to fit an Osmia 883 nib that uses a 6mm feed.

 

This fountain pen uses a small nib that uses 5mm feed. The distance between both shoulders is 6 mm. Unfortunately I don't have an extra nib that uses a 5mm feed.

 

I want to buy a modern nib that uses a 5mm feed and replace it. Like Bock 180 or JoWo #6. But I can't buy Bock nib and JoWo nib. I live in Korea, and I have to pay a higher shipping fee than Nib to buy them in retail.

 

So I'd like to know which cheap fountain pen uses nibs with 6mm or less spacing between the shoulders as they combine into a 5mm feed. As far as I know, Faber-Castel's "Grip" fountain pen uses a 5mm feed nib. Will the nib and feed of the Faber-Castel grip fit my NuPoint?

Have you considered just aligning and smoothing the existing nib?  That's what I'd try first, otherwise you could buy a Jinhao 82, a nic, very inexpensive pen that uses a number 5 nib.

I second tuning and aligning the existing nib. The nature of how they did tipping on these really old nibs is they put gold over it to attach them so it almost always looks like there's little tipping when there is more than enough. That nib looks to be in very good condition to me.

Aliexpress sells Bock, Jowo and Schmidt. Kaigelu and Hongdian are also good nibs. This week I ordered 3 Hongdian and a Schmidt from Aliexpress. The shipping prices are very affordable.

I live in Brazil and almost always get good shipping prices, both in China and other countries.

In FP nibs the variety is greater and I don't find shipping very expensive.

Since the nib has a vintage aesthetic, I think, as other member here already says, the first option should be to try to fix the original nib.

I tried nib correction according to your advice. I corrected the tine and polished the tip of the nib. I used 20,000 sheets of film sandpaper and the streak was gray, so as "LoveBigPensAndCannotLie" said, the tipping was buried in gold.

 

I'm not an expert, so I didn't create a satisfactory tipping, but it looks good enough to write. This is a very slight elasticity but generally solid and it's medium to broad.
