Like the title says, i would love reviews/opinions but specifically only from PAST OR PRESENT OWNERS/USERS* of the Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Victor Hugo Limited Edition and/or the Montblanc Heritage Collection Rouge et Noir Spider Metamorphosis Limited Edition 1906 Fountain Pen?

Would love to hear about your experience writing with either of these pens, what nibs you have on them, what inks you find work best woth them, how they feel writing long pieces etc. But please, only if you have actually used one of these yourself.

I have both. Hugo is a cheap looking pen -- matte finishing makes the pen looks very very low end, just like a plastic rod from Home Depot, and click/ring plating is even poor. No where close to luxury. It is the most regretful pen purchase I ever did.

But this pen writes good. Not a single skip -- unlike any previous years production.

As to Spider, the gold ring/section plating will fade very quickly, as soon as you ink the pen. This pen has a lot of quality issue. At least my pen has many skips and was sent back to Texas several times.

Conclusion: all crappy, none is good, save your money for the next great production.

Presumably you mean the Victor Hugo LE1831 FP and not the Victor Hugo LE9800 FP?

Are you talking about this Spider 1906 made of silver? This is the one I refer to but I don’t see any gold ring?

Perhaps they are referring to this Coral edition that has champagne gold plating:

It has a gold “ring” around the cap and a gold-plated section.

That is a lesson not to jump to conclusions.  Because you were asking about the Spider Metamorphosis 1906 FP, I presumed you were interested in the Hugo 1831 FP.  But instead, you are interested in the Hugo 9800 FP.  Amusingly @dbs seems to have provided feedback on the Hugo 1831 FP and Spider Metamorphosis SE FP, the diametrically opposite pair of pens to your question.

(Regrettably, I am of no use to you.)

I absolutely hated the look of the special edition Victor Hugo and decided to splurge on the more limited 1831 which in my eyes is one of the better looking recent Montblanc's. For me, I would skip those versions that don't appeal to me. I think I might skip this years as well.

Suppose no one else has any experience of the spider metamorphosis 1906fp?

I doubt the people who make that kind of "dough" to afford that kind of pen would spend their time on thefountainpennetwork. They have better things to do, like eating caviar and tanning on their yacht.

I've eaten caviar and tanned on yachts.  My last purchase was a blue, faux MB146 for £39.  Writes and feels like the real thing.

Back to our regular programme ........

Add lightness and simplicate.

Interesting... spider metamorphosis 1906 fp costs less than $3000, cheaper than most current POAs, and a fraction of Rolex. Why they cannot spend time on fpn?

I just can't see a person who casually pays 3000$ on a pen to spend his time browsing internet fountain pens forums. A person that sells half of his pens to buy that one "grail pen" or one that buys it used at a steep discount, yes, sure, but someone who can afford to pay that much on a regular basis without bating an eye, I doubt it.

That's why there are so many reviews for "average" pens that cost 300-700 from actual users, but if you were to look for those high end pens, 99% of the reviews are made either by shops selling them or by being lent, and I'm sure it's not because of the "rarity" of being only o "few" thousand of them made because I've seen much rarer but cheaper pens being reviewed by users.

Are you saying forums are only for "poor people"?  What an odd view of the world.  Everyone has hobbies and can spend time on-line being invested in them to whatever extent they feel like. There are certainly plenty of people here posting expensive pens regularly, including Montblanc limited editions.......

Yes, that's what I believe. You might find one or two people, like there is a channel on youtube called "Montblanc Unboxing" and he posts some very limited editions but most of them he doesn't even take out of their plastic bag.

But there is no solid gold limited edition Montblanc reviewed on youtube that I know of. Millionaires don't bother with reviews. I can barely find any review of those close to 100 or even more different Montegrappa limited editions that sell for thousands like the "memory" or "brain", or those white ivory Visconti pens etched with different scenes on them.

You can find some photos on my Flickr: https://flickr.com/photos/cyrillem/albums/72157677258352987

It is not my favorite pen from my collection and I prefer the Serpent 1906 edition rather than this Metamorphosis. This one is heavier than Serpent and probably the Victor Hugo. For the nib, all the Heritage nibs are quite soft and special compared to a nib like the Victor Hugo. So you should try both to choose the one you prefer in term of feeling when writing with. The Metamorphosis is more expensive than VH and with quite more luxurious materials compared to black resin of Victor Hugo.
