Just purchased this 146. Is it fake?

1. The resin redish glow …check

2. piston filler …check

3. Right box service guild …check

4. Right raised lettering around cap.. check

5. Pix raised wording inside the clip underneath.. check

6. Germany Stamped on the collar around the top of the cap… check

7. model number contains 2 letters and 7 numbers… check

8 BUT…model number font is in question. 

is this a fake even with all the other stuff correct???

So the number above is from a real Montblanc 146 …my Montblanc 146 serial number doesn’t look like the same quality. Even the spacing between the real one vs mine is completely different. Would Montblanc put in serial numbers differently like this with different spacing?

It looks a little clumsy but that doesn't automatically indicate a fake. It could be that the clip has been replaced at some point. If you google search 'Montblanc Serial Numbers' you will find sites where you can look the serial number up to see if its a fake and click on images to see examples of fakes. The rest of your pen looks fine. Piston filling fakes of MB's are mercifully rare, but are out there. The telltale is usually shoddy cap rings, poor plating and nibs that are thin and can be exposed as steel by applying a magnet.

My 80's 149 14k has no serial number.  Late 1991 saw the introduction, with a standard type face.  The change to the rectilinear typeface took place, I believe, 2014

Hmmm.  Not so sure. Since my post above, I've received a fake 146 with that same serial number.

Piston filler yes. Nib says 14k, but for £39 I very much doubt it.  Looks, feels, and performs like the real thing.

I have the 149 version of this in orange plastic but the second you pick it up you'd know it isn't real. It has no serial number. The nib is steel, but a nice enough writer.

It is true and Lots of fakes... and if you go for anyone unknown  or not sure your seller is genuine,  then you might  end up getting  caught to something. Buying vintage pens is real game. 

I bought all of my Mb Pens on the Ebay but I never had a problem. Once I had caught to a Chinese faked Ball pen but I had a chance to get the money back. Recently  I lost a deal buying a an Apple Pencil. it took me more time to realise it was a faked knock off pencil. You need a real knowledge  about what you are buying too.

Be extremely cautious nowadays when purchasing Montblanc pens from secondary markets. The new knockoffs replicate the piston filler and nibs with remarkable accuracy, surpassing previous attempts. Some sellers even go so far as to assert that their parts are interchangeable with authentic ones. 

 

I've encountered several pictures of counterfeit Montblanc pens, both resin ones and special editions, and distinguishing them from genuine ones is becoming increasingly difficult. To compound the issue, some counterfeits are packaged in imitation special edition boxes. Personally, I prefer to exclusively acquire Montblanc pens directly from their boutiques after seeing these fakes.
