First Pelikan knock-off?

AceNinja

Recommended Posts

YouTube shorts just served me a Pelikan knock off.  Surprisingly not from china. The clips looks almost one to one to a Pelikan, the nib though is a different story.  And it's a piston filler.

I understand there was a Jinhao 500 which is also supposed to be a Pelikan lookalike.

Anyone heard this pen before?

The Reform I bought in 1989 is rather Pelikanish, although I can’t remember if the clip is that blatant of a copy.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Centennial IM, RO Rose Gold Antiqua

Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint, MB Cool Grey

MontBlanc 1441 F, Monteverde Brown Sugar

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

I had a translucent green Reform pen that I gave away, but I still have my Reform Calligraphy pen.  Once I dig it out, I can compare clips.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Mine has a piece chipped off from the outer cap right where the clip ring attached, so the clip is in a drawer in my sewing room. The inner cap is still good and pen still works a treat. One day I will buy a replacement cap.

Good luck.  Just checked my Reform.  The clip isn't likely to be mistaken for a Pelikan.

A Flair Success fooled me in a lot with unclear pictures on eBay. The pen was a piston-filler. I sold it. The photo below is mine.

Wow this Flair success's clip is also looking very much like a pelikan's clip.  Searching online, seems like Flair is also based in India.

Could it be that a pelikan's mould / tooling somehow made its way to India?  Maybe the tooling was supposed to be disposed due to age / wear, and somehow ended up elsewhere, and used by other entity to produce the clip.

because they really looks like a real one, from the photo and the video.  With clever camera angle people may have success sold it as counterfeit, not just knock off.

I think any tool maker could make that clip. with out stolen tooling.

One of my older Guiders (I forget the name of the model, but have had it for years...) has a clip shaped very similar to that. Also, the single Flair and Arihant pens I picked up some years ago have the same clips.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
