Majohn/Moonman C1

Idk if anyone wants to struggle through two pages of my handwriting, but just in case you do, here's a positive review 😉:

How the pen wrote before I ground the nib into a stub, compared to a Sheaffer Triumph F:

The review is written in Noodler's (Standard) Green with a bit of Diamine Kelly Green mixed in (to make it dry more quickly) on a Memo brand recycling pad.

I paid € 25 for the pen when I bought it some time in November, but I think you can get it for a bit less again now.

Interesting, thank you!

I have the M2 EF nib and I am very happy with the pen. I filled the body with Lilac Sheen expecting it to cause me a problem with the sheen stuff blocking the feed. That has never happened and although I do not use it all that often it always writes straight off and yes, despite the EF nib, the sheen in the ink is clearly visible.

I had thought of grinding the nib to an italic, as I have done with many of my pens but, I chose not to and I am quite happy with it. I have found that my nib has a minute amount of flex to it, not a lot but enough to make the writing look different.

I think that Moonman/Majohn make a good pen and that ability to fill the entire chamber with ink is amazing!

Interesting @dipper! I've also placed orders for some of the original C1 nibs (mine never had those) and a Kaigelu "long knife" nib. This was while I thought I'd messed up my pen's nib, which it turns out I haven't 😄.

Any chance of a writing sample from yours?

Edit: I've just remembered something I forgot to say in my review of the pen: My cap takes 2 1/4 rotations to come off, so quite a lot.

Photo below shows samples written with a stiff nib (Preppie), a soft nib (Falcon), and a flex nib (Moonman C1 body & feed with a FPRev Ultraflex nib).

I've now received three of the original C1 nibs, and the one I tested indeed writes wider than the newer style Moonman F nib that my C1 came with: roughly 0.55 mm rather than 0.4 mm as my first nib, putting it closer to an F/M.

I've also finally been able to take a half-decent pic of my nibs (newer style, thin one on the left, new to me original one with the crescent breather hole on the right) and line up the nib with the pen's flat spot so that the nib now faces up when it lies on that. This makes me happy 😊.IMG_20230429_184557.thumb.jpg.214fa7b8f5eef4e6e348c82265642dc0.jpg

And the third nib in this poor pen in a day, a Kaigelu Long Knife that I've just found in my letterbox - I really like how it writes, but unfortunately the nib itself is pretty ugly. I stuck in onto my first feed, the one that came with my pen, because I can't get the other - original-looking - nibs and feeds out 🥴:

Lovely to see your C1, Nellie. I have this pen as well, and though mine came with the regular Moonman nibs, I put a Franklin-Christoph steel Cursive Italic Fine in mine and have never looked back. I keep it inked with Birmingham Inks Gerbera Pink, (more of a magenta, really, than pink), and love it.
Nice seeing your C1 with the FPR flex nib, too, dipper.  Thank you.

Thank you @leicagirl! Great to hear you love yours too! The pen has actually made it into my top three now - for the moment! (But then again, it has a clear advantage over my all-time favourite PFM: I can put in any ink I like, so who knows):

How is the capping and uncapping on your pen? I bought mine along with a PENBBS 491 and the difference among them is huge. The PENBBS cap glides like it's on butter while the C1 has the worst feeling ever, like it's sticking, and I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the C1 has bigger threads, because I have a Conklin All American with big threads that also glides.

Absolutely fine (aside from taking 2 1/4 turns). I've never noticed anything unpleasant when capping/uncapping.

It sounds like the threads on yours are uneven or not well matched 😞

I guess so. Thanks.

@Waltz For Zizi I thought of you today, as the cap on my C1 felt somehow rough when capping/uncapping the pen. That was at work, so I couldn't do anything about it. Now, however, I've had time to clean out the cap threads and it feels smooth again/glides on. Maybe there's some tiny obstruction in your cap threads too?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
