Brownish/burgundy ink for vintage pen?

This may sound mad, as it's such a dark saturated ink, but do you find it shades in some of your pens?

I find that it yields occasional bits of shading, especially if used on hard-coated papers such as Oxford ‘Optik’.

Given how saturated it is, it isn’t that surprising that it doesn’t shade as much as e.g. R&K Salix or Scabiosa do.

And its ‘melted chocolate’ colour pleases me.

Nom nom nom nom, nom nom nom! 😉

Its colour makes it one of my favourite inks for writing personal correspondence.

Guilty-as-charged, your Honour.

My first ‘brown’ ink was Parker Penman Mocha.

For my Pelikan pens (& perhaps my Lamy 2000) I have Edelstein ‘Smoky Quartz’.

In my other pens (& my Pelikans too) I love the colour of Diamine ‘Chocolate Brown’ 😊

If they don't they should!  :thumbup:

I seem to have a fascination for dark greens at the minute eg Diamine Sherwood Green. 🙂

Try Sailor "seaweed"

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thanks!  But I'm struggling to find that in the UK...and if I could it's going to be expensive by the looks of things...

Thanks, I'l take a look....without looking back,  a long time ago there were 3 or 4 in Diamines 'dark greens'.... was / is there a Green/black or similar? I read loads of reviews and Sherwood came out as a strong contender. If you haven't tried it you really should. Like most inks, it behaves quite differently between various pens. (For me at least))

It is one of the jentle inks so it shouldn't be too expensive.  I really liked it. I didn't see it at Cult Pens and I don't know of any other UK pen stores, though I'm sure there are many.

Is this the one??

At first look not readily available in the UK. But thank you for the recommendation.  To be honest that looks more 'blue' than 'green' to me ?

I guess it is no longer available in the big bottles.  It is definitely green.

It's darker than Sherwood, I've tried it.  The Monteverde Jade Noir is pretty dark too, but wetter than my preference.

For a dark green Diamine ink, you might try the following:

Diamine ‘Classic Green’ - pleasingly murky and shades delightfully, but its colour is not one that I would describe as very-dark;

Diamine ‘Racing Green’ (an exclusive for missing-pen.de);

Diamine ‘Sherwood Green’;

Diamine ‘Evergreen’;

Diamine ‘Deep Dark Green’ (an exclusive for Cult Pens);

Diamine ‘Green-Black’.

Each of these inks has at least one review here on FPN, so it ought to be easy for you to decide which one suits you best.

Personally, I am minded to buy a bottle of Monteverde ‘Gemstone’ Olivine - after all, I have some important letters that I need to write to Newspaper Editors 😉

Thanks for the suggestions. :thumbup:  I don't think the range has changed since 'back in the day' on the Diamine, although I can't remember if they did custom colours for retailers back then? 🤔 I ordered mine direct from them. Which still looks the best option unless you need 'other stuff'.
