If this is a nurses pen, I seem to remember reading that charting done on night shift was written in red ink.  When she looked down at her pens, with the red dot, she could pick the correct one.

You didn’t miss it. The red dot came from a long time friend. He knew I wanted it when it became available.  He was thinning the herd.
