How do I fill this desk pen?

I found this in a local thrift store a couple years ago, though the pointy tail end was broken off, but still in the bin with it. After gathering all the pieces and making the purchase, I found it had a usable sac at the time and drip filled it, finding the pen itself functional. I do need to get a new sac for it now, and have several on the way. However, in looking at it, I don't see the proper way to fill it and have been wondering how to properly use sac pens for awhile now. Can someone help me know where to look for how to properly use it?

first of all congrts on your new pen,

You are opening the pen from the wrong point, you can unscrew the tail end of the pen to open the filling system.  extend the piston , put the pen in ink and push the piston down and screw it back to fill.



Since you have already opened the front section, might as well do a visual inspection to make sure that the sac is ok. you can gently remove the metal sac protector and make sure the rubber sac is in good shape.

Aah. No wonder why I can't figure it out... Thanks for the info. The tail end was literally broken off when I got it, so it looks like I have a more extensive repair job than I thought. I remember seeing what looked like a screw in the tail and was wondering what it was for. I couldn't do anything with it at the time, so I just glued it on and proceeded best I could tell. Still, it's a fairly nice writing pen from the tests I did so far.

I'm no expert on these pens btw.

I believe that the tail is screwed in to the metal piston using a single flat screw. there may also be a washer there (not sure) and a gasket on the barrel between the barrel and the piston rod. this system uses air vacuum so it needs to be air tight for the filling system to work. Glue probably isn't the best thing for this system and based on where and how much, it might complicate matters when attempting  to repair

Unfortunately, the part that is supposed to hold the two halves together was broken when I got it, and me not knowing it was supposed to turn just glued it back together, so I'll have to get the solvent and break the glue up before I go about fixing it. Now that you've let me know how it is supposed to work, I think I can get it broken back up and reassembled properly.

Looking at your first pic is the barrel cracked?  If it is this will not be able to function as designed as you will not be able to create the suction that is required to fill the pen.
