Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Jet Black

This is review #192 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Cleaning was quick and easy. Conveniently, the ink is black and it looks black in all the images. :D I did add an extra image of the copy paper, where you can see the coppery sheen.

The line width measurement is one of the lines used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 290µm. (For the curious, with 192 inks measured, the average line width is 292µm.)

The slide smear had the usual feathery / crystaly things, but also had random spots of bright yellow.  I color-corrected as best I could, but the yellow (inset into the main smear image) is brighter in real life.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Oooo!  I have many of your comparison inks.  If I was still on my Black Kick, I might buy this, but I'm in the process of de-inkifying a little bit.  Maybe.  Possibly.

(Wish I'd bought this instead of the highly-recommended Nam Icky Black)

But the story!  Fantastic.  Thanks once again for the review and serial.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:lticaptd:The only things I don't like about Pilot Namiki Black are that it's black, and it writes a rather fat line.

:D  Thanks!  From here, it's one cliffhanger after another until around 211. :P  You're very welcome!

The microscopic images look so cool!

Is your target audience the flat earthers :D

Love the quote by the way. Wit is something so lacking these days :)

 The flat-Earthers have nothing to fear but sphere itself!  (I have not imagined a target audience, nor is it my fault - I'm just observing and recording what happens. :D )

:)  Twain really could be funny sometimes.  I'm trying to find some more light-hearted quotes as I'm running low on serious ones.  It's shocking how many good, short quotes there aren't. ;)

OK, hmm, it's black.

Hi @LizEF.

The post-cheesburger sleep must be similar to the soup-coma I know from own experience: what else should happen if all blood goes into digestion work?

Do Sneks dream of virtual cheesburger?

One life!

  Maybe they dream of running from sphinxes who are trying to steal their cheeseburgers! ;)

Hi @LizEF, have you also done a review on Diamine Onyx Black?  I'm wondering how does Jet Black compares to Onyx Black, which one is 'blacker' etc.

No, sorry, I don't have Onyx Black.  I'd recommend checking out the various fountain pen retailer websites - they tend to do a good job of comparing inks.  Anderson Pens and Goulet Pens will let you put the swatches side by side, and JetPens have a good "guide" on black inks (though I don't know if it includes these two).
