Pelikan Silvexa leaking

Hi everyone.

I have a problem with a cartridge Pelikan Silvexa.

As far as I understand, Pelikan uses standard cartridges / converters. I have tried Pelikan, Kaweco and some "brandless" cartridges, as well as a Kaweco converter, but the ink leaks. It is not immediate, it takes a day or so, but it leaks. Note that apparently they fit well.

Here is the best photo of the section I could take:

Did someone have the same problem? Any idea or suggestion of what to try?

Thank you for your help 🙂

Leaks from where?

In the second photo, the ink is OUTSIDE the cartridge, it is leaking inside the barrel.

Have you tried using it with a second cartridge in the barrel? The pen was designed to use 2 cartridges back to back.

The second cartridge should supply enough pressure to the first and to stop the leak.

No, I did not try it. But I will, it makes sense.

Thank you very much!

Hmm. That would certainly seem to indicate the cartridge is not snug enough. I guess try the suggestion above and see what happens.

I would also check with a loupe or magnifying glass to see whether there's a teeny crack in the cartridge neck.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

After some days of testing with the two cartridges... failure, it is still leaking.

With the loupe I cannot see anything wrong.

I am at a loss here, I do not know what else to try...

Hello @Nahrein, I'm sorry to hear that.

I also experienced similar leak with Pelikan M495 and modern European universal converter (right).

The converter sucked ink well, but ink leaked how tightly the converter was inserted. Of course, the converter or pen had no crack. The only solution was the old genuine Pelikan converter (left).

In the first place, the shape of converters are different and European universal converter (and presumably cartilages too) doesn't snug the old Pelikan pens well. I recommend you to find old Pelikan converters.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
