What Pen did you clean out today?

I normally only have three pens inked at a time with two or possibly three inks.  Usually, it is a broad and a medium nib plus an extra of the same nib.

  Oof, I cleaned up my haul and new grinds from the show last night. MontBlanc mini and 144 Solitaire Doué set, Brute Force resin pen (I really need to ask Troy for more information about it),  Pilot 743 verdegris FA, Namiki Silver Dragon IB, Sheaffer Slim Targa IF, Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint. I rehydrated the purple ink in the Conklin Endura instead of cleaning it because it looks pretty.

 

    Very recently,I cleaned a Sheaffer No Nonsense and a Yiren 🦕 school pen (pen show has made the past week a blur). A couple nights before that it was my vermeil Parker 75.

  I cleaned my little Suica penguin Sailor PGS today. I bought a painted penguin converter from Quillypigs on Etsy for it. I expect to have to clean a couple more by Sunday. 
 

  I cleaned out my forest green Parker 51 last night. I don’t think the PPS #10 was the best choice for it. I think I will go back to Quink for it.

I ended up in the situation again that I had too many pens inked. So I cleaned out those who looked most empty; my vintage Pelikan 400, and one of my Visconti Van Gogh’s.

 

Inked are still my (new) Leonardo Momento Magico, my (also new) Asvine V126, my Asvine P20, my Aurora 88, and my Montblanc 22. That makes five pens; my (self declared) maximum.

I'm trying to keep only two and possibly three pens inked at a time to avoid having to do as you did; clean the ones that look most empty, or the nibs have dried out.

Yesterday I cleaned a Geha 760. Geha nibs screw out and fit, 790/780/760 pens.

And a Lamy Studio with a springy Z55 B nib on it.

I inked with an old MB LE Collodi ink....some sort of redish-orange...Chestnut ink.

 

I used my 7-8 real good to better papers.

The ink shaded on all papers with both pens, but the factory stubbed OB semi-flex of the Geha gave me a much nicer scrip than the regular ol'B.

 

So I'll moving that  Lamy Studio with the Z55 nib into the to clean cup, as soon as the remnants of the ink in the feed run out. That pen I emptied back into the bottle.

 

I shouldn't have expected a regular springy B to compete with a stubbed semi-flex OB, but forgot the charm of those nibs. When I came back to fountain pens I went wide, and my Pelikan 140 started my semi-flex desires.

Bo Bo, if that I pen was made today they would sell a ton of them.  Striking.

When it ...as a medium-small pen was Geha flagship, it had a gold ring at the piston cap.

It is a then ('50's-60's) a popular medium-small pen, like the 140 or Kaweco Dia, so if made today would have to be at least a medium-long pen to retain balance.

IMO Outside the Snorkel and P-45 Large pens don't have posted balance.

That era was in the One Man, One Pen time, and one bought a new pen every decade.

 

 I was lucky.....to get it before the normal seller who now uses 2/3's the Professional Scalpers on Buy Now, (US prices) in the Auction section of German Bay.

 

It was always more expensive than the 790.....so it took me a while to land it, even being at the well in Germany......sadly with no popular wishing well belonging to me, next to it.

A Platinum 3776 Century in black with a 14k gold medium nib. It had had Robert Oster's Thunderstorm in it.

 

Now, why do some pens clean out easily and quickly (this one did), and others take a month of Sundays to get thoroughly clear of any ink residue? Is it the pen itself (the nib unit arrangement), or the ink? Or maybe both? I suppose a non-detachable nib unit plus a very saturated ink would make for more difficult cleaning.

 

I need to cut down from having 10 or more pens inked at a time! 🤨

Well once I had the normal 17 pens inked.

Then after a hard uphill fight got down to 7 I wanted to use more inks.

 

Then more inks came in.

And I'm not talking about F,M,B and BB...true ink testing, just the lazy what pen do I have that is mostly an M or B pen...with occasional F...and a couple EF's for editing.

 

Yesterday, I was down to 30 from 35, and for a short period 32...but piston/converter filling only the minimum, one of the 32 ended up in the almost full to clean cup. The shading ink was better in the semi-flex OB than a nice springy B.

 

I do have plans to get down to 7-10 again.............but even before thinking of that, I need to clean out the dirty pen cup.

Homo Sap Bronze age and boy it was a doozy the only way i truly found to clean it decently is using the visconti traveling ink well and cycling pumps with DI water about 5-6 times to fully flush it out

I cleaned out my Cross Solo.  This humble, unassuming pen has been sitting in my pen cup for about 5 years, inked.  But here's the thing, it starts every single time and I rarely think about cleaning it.  Today's the day, for good measure. 

 

It seals so well, that this time around I'm refilling it with Platinum Carbon Black. 

 

Although this was a cheap pen, it has a great EF nib.

Gonna flush the Pilot metal Falcon, it’s been inked continuously for about 3 months. Then it’s getting inked right back up because I like it that much…

I have a couple of Solos, and I like them very much.  The red one I bought from the estate of a friend who did a lot of calligraphy and illumination and such (she also did bookbinding and we commissioned some books from her a number of years ago for when I got the top service award for the organization we were in, because I knew that I could talk to her about getting FP friendly paper for them).  

I liked that pen so much that I bought the bright blue one at OPS and sorry now that I didn't buy some other colors at the same time (by the time I got back to that table, only the blue one was left).

I'd love to be able to get a purple one and a yellow one at some point -- hopefully with nibs I don't already have (the red one is an F, and IIRC the blue one is a B).  They weren't expensive and are well made (I forget whether they were made by Pilot or Sailor) under contract to Cross.  

I should really think about putting one of them back into rotation again....
