Pelikan website: No fine pens

Let’s hope for the best. In the mean time I noted that in the new catalog there is no mention of the M101N line, so the blue-gray M101N is probably discontinued, and no substitute is presently available.

M101N  and such are often limited, fading in and out of production. Wait a half a decade.

I had seen rumblings the past few weeks but only now checked out the site.  I can find the fine pens, but it took some looking.  The site design is certainly going for the cute and modern esthetic - the website equivalent of lowercase helvetica, which honestly gives me the newbie-jeebies.

I'm holding off on the new Ink of the Year as I was disappointed with Golden Beryl AND it took forever to arrive.  I have so many Edelstein inks in the same color aqua/teal/turquoise family already.  I'm glad Pelikan is producing one, however!

Apatite

Looks more towards Jade with a bit of glow....got to see it on paper.

But having mall but 3-4  of the Edelstein inks will keep getting them if good. The last golden something with sparkles was just to light for me.  Moonstone didn't get bought either, a pen did. I have three-four grays and that is enough for me.

I like the dark gray Herbin with the silver or was that golden specks.

How ever when Edelstein reaches e-20 I will buy no more.

Dear FPN,

I just got a message from Mr Jens Meyer, Global Marketing Manager Fine Writing Instruments at Pelikan, in which he assures that the problems they have encountered were first decreased demand due to lockdowns and economic uncertainities, then a total shortage of raw materials and at present many workers sick with Covid-19.

His conclusion was that we could be assured that Pelikan will continue to produce writing instruments of the highest quality!

My reaction is that it was very kind of him to respond, and "Gott Sei Dank!"

Lennart

Thanks so much for taking this initiative Lennart, and for letting us know (and also, for letting Pelikan know, coincidentally, that there are concerned fans of the brand waiting hopefully for their return).

Fingers still crossed for their speedy return to production.

D.

At my B&M in Freiburg (Sutter), the Edelsteins are already over 19EUR. If 20 is your limit, I don't think it will be long. I can't believe Knoblauch will be much cheaper for long.

Last I'd heard was 18.5 but could well see it at 19....sadly.

I've got enough inks....really got some 80 or so bottles, and 10-15 cartridge boxes.

I'll get some Lie de Thé; as soon as that bottle runs out. Topaz is a 'much' used ink by me. So I'd best get a 'second' bottle soon.

Not counting the 20 or so Akkermann samples.

I'm going to be thinning pens soon anyway. Might as well  put some old inks up. Been talking about thinning for the last 4-5 years.

I hear you with regard to "thinning out". A few years after discovering FPN and all of the enablers here, I think I am very close to that "pen peace" that was discussed somewhere in another thread. Most of my new pen purchases these days are gifts, and I am really trying hard to maintain no net growth in my accumulation.

When the time comes that I am no longer writing by hand on a daily basis, there will be bunch of used Pelikans coming onto the market.

That said, there are a couple of regular production premium Pelikans I would still like to have (e.g., there are one or two standard Souverän colors for which I would like to buy an M400--M600 is my favorite, but I like the weight and balance of the M20x/40x models, too), so if it looks like there will be an extended interruption in supply from Pelikan, I might jump in and buy now instead of waiting. But I would also bet a shiny new Euro coin that Pelikan's premium pens are not going permanently die in the near future. The brand is very well known, and from the dealers I have spoken with (some small, some larger) demand for their premium pens is still stable. I guess we'll see. From what I have seen posted up until now, no one here has a clue what is really going on inside Pelikan itself, and Pelikan isn't talking. In that sense, I guess we'll just have to wait, or hope we can find a mole.

I don't have so many inks, and for 90+% of my writing, I stick with blue, brown, black or some combination thereof. So I am sure there is room to optimize my assortment of inks.

I can remember as a 'noobie' thinking 12 pens would be more than enough and  who needed more than 10 inks.:lticaptd:

Memories - I recall not knowing why people would want more than three... and as to inks?  I thought one just needed ink! Had a bit bottle of MB blue-black and thought that was sufficient. Then one day I ran out...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
