No, no! Now it's your lucky pen, so if anything, you'll have more luck!

It's lovely! An art object that's also useful.

Love the idea of a lucky pen (actually planned to buy a Chinese Lucky with a golden nib for that purpose but the price got up suddenly...) and also the definition a useful art object. Definitely gonna keep it at the heart of my fp hoard now :D Thanks.

@lamarax Thanks!

It will be like having two birthdays!

Maybe your expedited Faraday has pushed me back in the queue 😛

My hints worked. For fathers day my daughter gave me the Onoto "The Faraday."

I teach electromagnetic fields so Faraday is like a hero to me.

If you have not already done so, you may want to visit the Royal Institute if you are ever in London.

Home | Royal Institution

In the basement they have an exhibition with lot of the equipment Faraday used in his experiments is on dispay - and it's free! Faraday Museum | Royal Institution

The Royal Institute is definitely on my bucket list. We actually had a trip to England planned in May and that was the first place I was going. I had an injury, fully recovered now, that prevented us from going.

Is it heavy?

I just weighed it and it is 1.5 oz, 44 g. I weighed a few of my Retro 51 FPs and they were anywhere from 0.9  to 1.3 oz.

I wrote 2 pages with it and it seemed fine at that weight for me.

My daughter tells me she ordered it June 6. I am amazed it got from the UK to the US that quick. It was shipped DHL.

@boilermaker1975 -- 44 grams?  OOOF!  That would be way too heavy a pen for me.  My weight limit has gone up somewhat since getting a couple of TWSBI 580s and a TWSBI 700 -- but lighter pens do better for me (I have "girly" hands).  And the TWSBIs don't see a lot of use for, um, other reasons.... :glare:

Ironically, the largest pen I have is the vintage Sheaffer Balance Oversize that had been my husband's grandfather's pen.  And that is actually (surprisingly) quite lightweight for its size.

ETA:  I'm also amazed by the shipping time, especially given a thread on here a while back where people were just ranting about how awful DHL's service is....

I ordered on the 3rd. Also chose (and paid dearly for) DHL Express, but that's irrelevant as my order hasn't even been dispatched yet. They do clearly state that bespoke requests such as nib modification may take up to 2 weeks, but I thought that'd be just a "blanket" overstatement 😐

Anyway, I'll contact them come Wednesday, when the "2 weeks" expire.

This is my first "expensive" fountain pen. I do have many Mont Blanc roller balls.

Looking forward to inking it later today with some Diamine Royal Blue.

  • 2 weeks later...

Today got this vintage Japanese eyedropper (from those old ebonite ones with shut off mechanism tho mine has it broken and am not sure if I'll even attempt to restore it). I forgot to add some silicon grease to the end cap and so it leaks and I have to store it nib-down but surprisingly this way it is ok so far. My first eyedropper fp. Even being unwell and tired I decided to write with it a wee bit (that's how I forgot to grease it actually) and it is a wonderful pen, the nib is steel and somewhat flexy. I suspect it to be made by Newman (it has NeW on the clip) but am not an expert in Japanese fps at all, might try to ask for help with identification later.

Two Auroras have arrived on the same day from different sellers. An 88 Duo Cart in Burgundy and green/grey and a 98 Riserva Magica. The Duo Cart has lost a little of its plating on the cap, nothing major and better than the pics suggested - the reserva magica is absolutely minty. Overall very pleased.

A green-striped Pelikan 400 -- rather more pearly green than deep or dark green, which I like -- with a very nice, moderately flexy oblique fine script nib. I've only dip-tested it, but I think this nib is going to suit me very well.

A very nice pen that brings me many memories. You should enjoy it, if I'm not wrong, it uses "standard" European cartridges.

Oh, that’s very nice! I might need to keep my eyes open for one of those; it tickles my early-eighties (?) design sensibility.

Thank you! Yes, it was made before Lamy started making their own cartridges.

Thanks,  I know it was in the 1979 Lamy catalogue, so that checks out.

I went from a fine to a medium nib on my Lamy Studio. So far I really like it. This has been my main drawing pen because it writes nicely at every angle

I'd been eyeing Lamy Studios (particularly in that color) for a while -- but when I tried one last winter at the Lamy SoHo store in NYC, discovered it was a bit too heavy for me to be comfortable to use. :(
