I got this pen today

I've been looking at those.  I'd have to see the other new SE Safari (Sunset Coral) in person to see if I like the color or not.  But the Dark Dusk is a no-brainer (I just have to see about getting one from someplace that has a wider range of nibs available than just EF, F and M...; and spent half the afternoon going through various websites to add both -- just in case -- to the spreadsheet of "pens & inks that are on my shopping list").

@Pen Ffynnon let me know what you think of the Esterbrook Back to the Land. The brown one is tempting.

It's a nice pen, but I'm a little meh on the nib. No offense to the nibmeister! To me, it's like a "fine" stub nib. Nothing special, no flexibility (although they never advertised it as a flexible nib), but there's none of the promised "gives your writing some flair". It's not particularly scratchy, but it sounds like I'm writing with a #2 pencil. And that's with a pretty wet ink.

On the other hand, the pen wound up being a pretty good match for Iro Rikka, so that's good.

Eta: Forgot to mention. Were I to buy another of these pens, I wouldn't pay the extra for the journaler nib. I'd likely just go for a stub.

Don’t you have a Safari nib you already like that you can swap?

Well, somewhere there's the nib that I swapped out for a hanzi nib but don't on one of the al-Stars a few years ago (not sure where it ended up, but have a bad feeling that it's in the bottom of a storage tub someplace).  But that was an M nib and I already have a bunch of other Safaris and al-Stars with M nibs (plus on the LX) and almost as many F nibs.  Not as many with B nibs (just the Violet Safari and the White & Red Safari).  Tried an EF nib at someone's table a few years ago at OPS and hated it -- thought it was scratchy.  Although the Safari my husband wanted me to get him a couple of years ago has an EF nib on it (of course he seems to have lost the pen somewhere in his home office... :glare:).  And don't use the pen with the 1.1 mm stub much, so didn't really see the use of getting a 1.5 mm or 1.9 mm stub (maybe if I start trying to do calligraphy again it would be worth it, but not really otherwise).  I figured that a B nib would do fine for my purposes (although I did consider getting another Hanzi nib, that didn't seem to be an option at Vanness, where I ended up ordering the pen from -- especially since I thought it would look nice with a black nib on it).

It sounds like you possess the full range of nib sizes of interest or of use to you, so you should be good to go.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Ironically, the only "standard" model Lamy pen I have is the one LX -- all the Safaris and al-Stars are SE colors, except for the blue one my husband wanted (and has of course misplaced :headsmack:) and is the only Lamy that has an EF nib on it.

ETA:  I should remember to look and see if the tracking number is up on the USPS website yet....

I received my early birthday present today, I wanted to make sure that it was ok before I take it to the nibmeister the weekend before my birthday. It’s a bigger pen than is my wont, but it’s beautiful, somewhat reminiscent of a penguin to me.

Thank you both for the early birthday wishes, @Pen Ffynnon and @Tashi_Tsering. On the 20th, it will be 49 turns around the sun.

Will there be cake and balloons? The present is certainly special!

Happy Birthday @Penguincollector.

Thank you! On the actual day, yes- maybe even an ice cream cake! No balloons though, the parrots are afraid of them.

Thank you! Once I get the grind I want, I have a ton of inks I would like to try with it. It should be ready by my actual birthday.
