My first vintage Pelikan. Nothing rare, but a nice 140, supposedly from the mid-50s, with an OM nib that suits me very well. I should have photographed it before filling to take advantage of the transparency!

Oooh...  That's a nice color! :puddle:  Didn't realize that they made blue striped bindes that early....

Thanks, Ruth! -- but believe it or not, it's actually green! I hadn't noticed how blue it looked in this picture until you mentioned it. Maybe it was the light, or my camera, or the fact that it's freshly loaded with Diamine Blue-Black. Here's another picture with the bluest background I could find for contrast 🙂

Okay, that makes more sense.  I have a couple of older Pelikans (an M100 and I think an M120) and both of them have the green striped bindes (or solid green) barrels.

My 140 is a lighter green than my M800. It looked almost turquoise at times when inked with Apatite.

And two Lorelei.

They were even cheaper than when I got yours (by just a tad). Quite happy that they're more colourful, especially the autumn one; but really glad you love your brown/amber as-is. We don't usually get to see the pens before committing to ordering.

The ‘twin’ green Jinhao X159 and white Jinhao 10 pens were offered like that. The ‘twin’ green Wing Sung 6006 were ordered like that on account of a US$1-off offer (with free shipping, too) that was only triggered past a US$3 threshold, but there was only a Buy Now button, so effectively one could only choose a single item or multiple identical units of a product with a particular option. These were US$1.71(+tax) each, so I ended up paying $2.76* for both.

* AliExpress calculated the tax based on the price before the US$1-off discount was applied to the total of the order.

Interesting and varied selection!

I am especially curious about the turquoise piston fill pen (second from the left)... the mix of opaque and transparent acrylic in a similar colour isn't something I have seen before.

Will work for pens...

Do you want it? I now have two of those huge pens, and only ‘need’ one (if that). I just wanted to see what the fuss is about, and had some stackable discounts to use at the time.

Huge? I am interested to see about fuss too. What is it? In that kind of colourway-combination someone is innovating.

Clearly I have missed the fuss.

Huge as in physically large. It's a large pen with a large (nominally “number 8”, but only measures 38.5mm in length, so it isn't even a proper Chinese size number 40) nib, and being a piston-filler that uses the barrel's cavity as the ink reservoir, a large on-board ink capacity. There are those who cry out for a Sailor KOP Realo (which do exist) because they want a large pen that is not converter-filled (or at least having more capacity than ~0.5ml that the Sailor standard converter has); then there are those who would tell you that an on-board ink capacity of less than 1.3ml is cruel and unusual punishment for someone who uses a fountain pen to write.

Where those two groups intersect on a Venn diagram seems to be where the fuss comes from, especially among elements that don't consider themselves pen connoisseurs with such discerning tastes that they expect to and would happily pay extra to satisfy their uncommon demands not shared by the “masses” in the worldwide fountain pen market.

You could probably gauge whether you'd like writing with a pen with a girthy grip section and a large nib from the Jinhao X159 I sent you, although of course the Wing Sung/Jun Lai 630 is a much heftier pen.

This pen arrived today. It’s the Monteverde One Touch fountain pen with 1.1mm stub nib. It has 9 tools, and I got the Rainbow colorway.

large.IMG_1550.jpeg.e0e26f5354c6dac381aeed7bf464a567.jpeg

The tools are it writes, a level, stylus, four rulers, a small slotted screwdriver that flips to a small Philips screwdriver.

I had to watch a video to understand how to use a cartridge, which is all it can use. In the above photo, the left side pulls out. That gives access to the included cartridge. It has a housing to push the converter into.

The 1.1mm stub nib is good. The pen is metal, so a touch heavy. It’s the kind of pen I wish I could show to my Dad. I’ve been missing my parents quite a bit lately.

Too big for comfort for me. I was disappointed that a bigger pen was not the solution for bad arthritis-days.

Sorry, for veering off topic. If only that turquoise piston filler was a #5 or 6...

That’s an awesome pen, it’s so handy! I love how utilitarian it is, and the stub nib is an unexpected luxury. The color is great. My dad would have loved it.

Thank you. I wish I could have shown it to my Dad. I wonder what he would have thought. Of course he would prefer it in red because that was his favorite color.
