What nib is on the WS629, @USG?

‘it’s a 14kt #6 nib that has Architect tendencies.   Here it is next to a #8 WS 630 14kt nib.

Ok, so it wasn't "today", but my neighbor gave me this seemingly new Parker 45 this week.  He found it in a construction dumpster; there are "some guys", and then there's "that guy".

Nice gift from your friend!  But you're saying that this was found in a DUMPSTER???  :o  Who would throw something that looks in such good condition into the trash?

Sounded like an auctioned home was getting remodeled, and all that the old owners left was going out in the remodel.  Guess that makes it a drawer find, right?  Either way, being the local neighborhood pen guy has its benefits.

Before retiring my wife was a book dealer with her own shop. Each day she would make the rounds of the thrift shops looking for material. I was always amazed what she found on a regular basis. On one occasion she came across a book of poetry by Langston Hughes, first edition and signed. It was marked a $1.50. She took it to the counter and told the clerk they really should consider doing some research and then price accordingly. The clerk shoved the book aside and said, "Look lady, we need to clear this stuff out. Do you want it or not?" She gave him $1.50 and later sold it for $750.00.  That kind of thing happened lots of times over the years. People toss out good stuff all of the time. I might add that my wife was very good at her trade.

👍  It sure sounds as if she was!

ETA: I have gotten some amazing deals and steals at estate sales, and also recently got an interesting art book online that was listed as being in paperback but turned out to be hardcover -- and autographed by the author to the original owner (another site had the book listed in hardcover at $150 US and I paid $26 for my copy).  But that's not the same thing as just tossing something in the trash.  The former owner -- or that person's heirs -- could have at LEAST taken stuff to Goodwill....

I blame Visconti! They put this Homo sapiens Lotus Garden on sale for 40% off. Still pricey, but I have admired this pen since it was issued, not expecting to ever get one. Mine has a stub nib, and it writes beautifully right out of the box, inked with Visconti Black.

  I like the scarf backdrop idea, @Misfit, @USG. Plus, it’s a 🍌 pen!

Thank you. Chalk it up to serendipity as the scarf was handy on the arm of the chair.

I’ve liked a few of your serendipitous pictures. I think you just have a good eye for spontaneous photo composition.

I've had one with a fine nib for several years. It's a great pen. I think you will enjoy it.

I had wanted that pen years ago, but then Delta went away.  so glad they brought it back.  An hour in and its writing quite well.

Thank you! I think I learned that from my Dad. He told me about photo composition, especially for outdoors photos. He and my Mom owned a camera shop early on. They even developed photos from those days of film in a dark room with cold developing chemicals.

My brother told me with iPhone photography, to get a good close up, start further out, with the focus on the nib. It seems to work.

I only just learned this about a year ago, after much frustration with getting any kind of up-close focus with newer iPhones;  back out and zoom in.

What did you play today?

That’s so cool! My dad collected old manual cameras and was really into film. He would show them on a projector when I was really little.  That’s a good tip from your brother about pen photography with phones.

Did your Dad have a Rolliflex (spelling might not be right)? My Dad didn’t but showed me photos of it online.

Thank you for the kind compliments my Penguin friend.

That’s such a nice pen.  A classic.  I wanted one back in the day too, but never got around to it. 🙁

What nib did you get?
Enjoy !  😀👍

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
