Unfortunately the barrel isn't as transparent as the old ones.

It is a beautiful pen, even without the window.

There seems to be a misunderstanding: striped Pelikans Souveräns never had an 'ink window' between the body and the section, like the opaque ones (solid black, green etc.) did - and still have.

The translucency of the barrel was due to the interlaced, non-colored stripes made of a semi-transparent celluloid acetate material, in a way that you could see the ink level by holding the pen against (strong) light. That's what's gone, unfortunately :(

I got two today. They are the Kaweco Frosted Light Blueberry and Soft Mandarine, both with BB nibs. I plan on putting Kaweco Paradise Blue in the Blueberry pen. The Soft Mandarine will get ink from a sample of Pelikan Edelstein Mandarin.

Even though my son has a Lamy, which I got him many years ago when he was perhaps too young to really appreciate a fountain pen, I just got him a Kaweco Perkeo to slip in his stocking so he has a new pen for his Rhodia Webnotebook and the Exacompta (which was such a topic of hot debate as far as paper quality is concerned). He will be entering a doctoral program next fall so maybe between now and then, he'll come to love fountain pens as much as I do.

@Ceramicist you are giving him a great start or continuing nudge that we can hope helps him join the fountain pen hobby.

Thank you! I value your opinion, and since you like Kawecos, I thought it would be a good pen to re-introduce him to fountain pens. Plus, I can try it out and perhaps get one of my own! I did get a fine nib since he writes small. I hope this was the correct choice. I imagine we can replace the nib if it's too fine.

A Waterman (strictly speaking, I guess, a JiF-Waterman) Super-Cartouche in the "New Look" style, black and gold, ca. 1952, with a large glass cartridge, a pair of porthole-style ink windows, and a big no. 6 nib. 🔥, if I do say so myself.

The Pelikan M809 Black (...or rather graphite) Matt. Looks quite different from the promotional photos, but it's still very impressive (and heavy)!

Congratulations!  I just saw this in person at the pen-store.gr in Athens, Greece.  I agree that it looks very different than the promo photos but the contrast shifts across the various finishes are absolutely gorgeous!  FYI… Goulet listed it at 41g.  I thought it was heavier than other 800s I’ve tried.  Even their new m805 metal sleeve is only listing at 34g (on Appelboom).

I couldn’t justify the expense this trip but did purchase a clear Pilot 823 Fine at their store.  With the ink shutoff and large capacity reservoir, I think it will be the perfect sketch pen for our retirement travels.  I kind of hoped I could justify the m809 but, alas, pragmatics won out in the end.

Also, if anyone’s traveling to Athens, the Pen-Store is a nice shop with very friendly and helpful people.

Kaweco does sell replacement nibs. They have EF, F, M, B, BB and several stub nibs, plus a twin nib. In other words, lots of options.

Thank you for the honor of valuing my opinion. I have two Perkeos, and like them. I got the clear and infrared.

Kaweco also sells a calligraphy kit for the Sport and Perkeo if you ever get interested in those larger nib sizes. I do not have this kit, yet. It’s in limited colors.  The Perkeo kit has 1.1mm, 1.5mm and 1.9mm nibs. The Sport kit has 1.1mm, 1.5mm, 1.9mm and 2.3mm nibs.

But, I checked Jet Pens for compatible products, and did not see replacement nibs for the Perkeo. Then I looked at one of my Sport and Perkeo pens, and they have different sizes of nibs and feeds. So all the information above applies to the Sport Kaweco, and not the Perkeo except for the calligraphy kit.

One last thing is the Sport pens have screw on caps, while the Perkeo does not. It pulls off.

I had a thought. The Kaweco Student pen, though more expensive, does take the Sport nibs. My brother got one while he was visiting. I had some Kaweco nibs available after swapping to the 1.1mm stub nib. It fit the Student. I have the 70s Soul Student pen. Mostly they come in cream bodies with a different color cap. There is an all black one as well. Then you could keep the Perkeo.

Thank you so much for all of this very helpful information. I think I will give my son the Perkeo and if he likes it, great. If he does not but is still interested in fountain pens, I will help him choose another pen, possibly the Kaweco Student.

@Ceramicist Here’s hoping your son likes the Perkeo. I’d say it’s a really good full sized pen.

Did you know Kaweco sells colored converters? The colors basically match their inks. I got a purple one for the clear Perkeo, and a raspberry one for the Infrared Perkeo. There are 10 colors in all. Vanness Pens also mentioned they work with any standard international pen, which excludes the Sport.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 30 currently inked pens:

Parker Duofold Lady needlepoint, MB Cool Grey

Pelikan M800 needlepoint, Kuretake Shikon

Platinum PKB 2000, Platinum Cyclamen Pink

Waterman 52 EF, Herbin Bleu Pervenche

Thank you! I did not know about the colored converters as I didn't research Kaweco in depth. I did purchase colored ink cartridges for my son to go along with the pen as I don't want to overwhelm him with bottled ink.

That pen looks very familiar.

I owned that pen or one very similar around 2010  and sold it to a New Yorker, a florist or a retailer of that sort. I recall that she was not happy with the purchase despite the accurate eBay sale description, I suspect that she paid more than she thought she should at $105.

It was not easy to produce a good seal on the cartridge into the section, I managed it but it was a faff.

I would have been delighted to get this pen for $105! The cartridge has had an o-ring fitted around its neck, which is supposed to produce a better seal (from what I can tell, tightening down the blind cap snugs the cartridge into place?). I haven't filled it yet, so it remains to be seen how well this works, but I have confidence in the source.

A very handsome pen. My pen also had the tiny rubber O ring, It might be an idea to source a replacement. I have just looked to see if replacement glass cartridges are around, they are and at a modest price.

Good to know about the cartridges! This o-ring was freshly installed by the restorer, so I think I should be I good shape for now (and I think I might have the appropriate size Viton ring from a batch I bought for a piston repair project…) Thanks!

Here they are, but without ink. I’ll likely wait to use them until 2026. They don’t fit in my current plans. Plus I’m expecting Santa to bring me likely 6 pens. So, those might take precedence if I’ve been good enough this year.

It’s the Kaweco Frosted Light Blueberry and the Soft Mandarine, with an ornament a friend gave me for Christmas.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
