My today's arrival is the top of luxury, Pilot Penmanship

It may be plebeian, but certainly has an intriguing design 🙂

You know, I just wrote on another forum, that spending anything more than €10 for a fountain pen is profusion (and yes, I'm guilty of that myself). This one just writes like a dream out of the box. Does it feel plasticky to me? Yes. Does it feel bad in hand? No. As for the design, a funny thing: I hate the 'triangular' grip section in the Safari, I hate it in the Tuzu, but I absolutely love it in this one.

The wait is finally over 🤩:

large.190159.jpg.7ae6afbbb75bbc86011978486dcb2c4c.jpg

The Pelikan M809 Black (...or rather graphite) Matt. Looks quite different from the promotional photos, but it's still very impressive (and heavy)!

Wow, I like that a lot more in your photo than I did in the ad. Just goes to show you. Are the cap body and piston knob polished to contrast with the matte body, bands, and clip? Or is a contrast between a matte black and a matte graphite?

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! Yes, the cap, section and piston knob are the standard precious "self polishing" acrylic all the Pelikans have. That was obvious already from the promo. I do like the contrast!

Yeah, it's even heavier than the standard M800 (as the barrel is solid PVD coated brass). I don't have a scale, but it probably weighs more than 60 grams.

I was about to get bold and ink it with Herbin 'Rouille d'Ancre' (porky pink 🤪) but just as I saw it irl, it screamed to me "EDC"! So I got conservative and used Pelikan 4001 Black, which despite its alleged dryness works really well with this pen (like maybe expected).

Pelicans Perch stated it is 28gms , a typo??

Gorgeous pen. I am sure you are going to enjoy using it for a very long time.

If I had not spent too much this year already on pens....but you never know.

I think Joshua took that value from Pelikan's official site, which clearly copy-pasted the specs from the standard M800. Maybe I was hyperbolic about the 60 gr, but it's certainly heavier than 28 (heck, I even doubt the M800 weighs that little, as I have a few).

Isn't it? I think this must be my second most beautiful acquisition this year (after the Onoto ebonite Magna) :)

If I had to award first prize for looks to either one, I’d have to flip a coin.

This crisp NOS (still had a ¥5000 sticker on it) Plat was delivered a few days ago, the barrel is stainless steel and the 18k white gold nib is stamped as a fine, but writes an extra fine line.

It's a small-ish pen at around 135mm long and 11mm diameter at the widest part of the barrel. Just about perfect for my taste!

It's a beauty. It, along with other Platinums of the era, have the same basic profile as full length lady Pilot Elites and Parker 45s. Hard for me to resist Japanese pens with this profile.

That certainly is a pretty pen!

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

The way I understand Platinum's naming strategy, it's Platinum Cool, which is the demo subset of the Platinum Balance series. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I'd like to know what I have! :D) They're not that easy to get in Europe these days, this one flew all the way from Japan.

Nice clean lines. Enjoy!

This arrived yesterday. Pelikan Souverän M400 with F nib. Still have to ink it and I will bring it along my business trip to South Africa next week 🙂

Unfortunately the barrel isn't as transparent as the old ones.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
