I got this pen today

I got my Fountain Pen Day purchase today. It’s the Monteverde MP1 piston filler in Mocha Moose. The pen has a 1.1mm stub nib. It included in the box, the story of the color of the year Mocha Mousse. And something so cute, the story of Momo the moose who loves to make Mocha Mousse with care. The other side includes a recipe for Mocha Mousse. Once I get some heavy cream, I’m making it!

Did anyone else buying MP1 pens get a sticker, and a story in the color? Was there a story about the, well, did they give the color name to a character?

Oh my gosh! That's a lovely pen and a very cool accompaniment! Your photo is great, too. Enjoy and post a photo of the mousse you make!

I shall try and remember to do that. I don’t have heavy cream, but can get that soon enough. Momo wanted me to share his recipe, so here it is!

The other pen I got today is the Dromgoole’s exclusive Retro 51 Sprinkle Ops. Had to get it with an M nib because that was all they had left in stock. Mine is #56 of 250. Pity I didn’t succumb to buying it when they had it with a 1.1mm stub nib. There is a cupcake image on the nib.

Thank you for the recipe, and what gorgeous photos of your beautiful new pen! I love the contrast of the blue on the finial, cap band, and clip picking up the blue sprinkles in the body of the pen.

@Ceramicist I put Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare ink in it. I’m using it as my pen of the day today.

That sounds perfect! Your pen has me wanting to make pink-frosted cupcakes with colorful sprinkles.

🧁 I'm not sure cupcakes would make it through the mail in one piece or still fresh, especially with the delays within the USPS.

That’s ok, I didn’t expect you to mail one. But I appreciate you put some thought into it. Thank you. I’ll accept instead that you post a photo if you make them.

These are standard JoWo nibs, at least the ones I have are. They unscrew, and if you have another pen with a JoWo 1.1 stub or a loose one, you can just swap 'em.  Of course, you loose the cupcake.

Happy writing!

And they gum up the fax machine something terrible!

I could swap nibs from a Retro 51 that’s clean, and waiting its turn. I figure if I slow down, I can write better with the (boring) nibs.

A Pelikan M480. Excellent condition but the nib has lost most of it's plating. To be expected really as the pen is over 40yrs old. Lovely fine nib. The picture is from google so not my pen but same model.

The Pelikan M809 Black (...or rather graphite) Matt. Looks quite different from the promotional photos, but it's still very impressive (and heavy)!

That's really classy looking!  But of course, M800 size pens are just too big and heavy for me.  Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll release it in a couple of years in the M400 size, like they did with the M405 Stresemann -- and then get even luckier and be able to find it for something resembling a reasonable/affordable price....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Yeah, it's even heavier than the standard M800 (as the barrel is solid PVD coated brass). I don't have a scale, but it probably weighs more than 60 grams.

I was about to get bold and ink it with Herbin 'Rouille d'Ancre' (porky pink 🤪) but just as I saw it irl, it screamed to me "EDC"! So I got conservative and used Pelikan 4001 Black, which despite its alleged dryness works really well with this pen (like maybe expected).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
