I got this pen today

I quite like my Sailor 1911 L and my full size Pro Gear...so when the chance came for 2 Pro Gear bodies with no nibs for $20 each arose I took it.

Soooo....attempt 1 worked!!...I trimmed a Jinhao nib and now I have I guess a Jinhao 82 large??? Will maybe try with a Jowo nib for my black and gold??

As a bonus I don't have to worry if I forget my pen at the office...although I really like the demonstrator body...might have to take the 21k nib from my real Pro Gear as a straight section swap would look odd....back with the clear body...a little reluctant to pull the nib though...no idea why when I'm happy to do so on other pens!!

@inkstainedruth you probably know this, but the nib and feed are easy to remove and swap with the lower price Pilot pens.

No, I actually didn't!  Thanks for the info.  Of course, I like the nibs on my two Metropolitans as is, but I'll keep that in mind if I ever get another one.

uıoɹǝH ʞɔɐſ inks can do a lot to one's perception, innit? 🙃

(I'm actually an overwriter, that's why line variation is inverted in that sample. Can do "normal" stub and italic though)

Kudos to Montegrappa for sobering up 😉

(maybe the Grappa has finally dried up 😆)

[edit] look at what can happen when Grappa's freely flowing during your design brainstorm meetings:

That's not only an insult to aesthetics, but a spit in the face of society and the human construct as a whole (+VAT). And no, I'm not buying the 'art' argument.

And I thought that their Pirates of the Caribbean" pen (with the skull wearing a pirate hat as the cap finial was tacky....

This one?  I plugged the price into a currency exchange website and it costs roughly what my parents got when they sold the house I grew up in after my dad retired... in 1987!  :yikes:

Mind you, the price quoted is without VAT. Adding my country's rate of 24%, that would be... $169,234.02 in today's exchange numbers. 😂

:yikes: That's almost as much as my husband and I paid for our current house -- and we paid less for it than our house in Massachusetts sold for (which meant we could *afford* to have the house rewired and the kitchen and the 3rd floor bathroom redone...) right after we bought it....

And to think I paid a whole whopping $15 US for the sterling Ciselé Parker 75 set (FP/BP) at an estate sale a week ago -- in the original box with a converter and two spare cartridges of Super Quink Permanent Blue (although those may need to be reconstituted) and a nice little wrap case.  Oh plus about $7 for a jewelry polishing cloth at a hobby store because the pens were so badly tarnished....

Talk about getting ripped off!!  What kind of shady sale did you go to?  Did they advertise for suckers?  😉

No, in fact they advertised "High end pen sets" but didn't have good photos in the listing.  And I got lucky in that I got there early enough to be about 3rd in line before the doors opened, and the pens were on a table in the living room right by the front door.  And was about to give up (since every other boxed pen was a BP, until I spotted the Parker logo on the last box).  And when I saw the price?  And saw what it was?  Score me!

And then was talking to a guy at the estate sale I went to this morning from my local pen club (I don't think he got the gold-filled Snorkel set any more than I did (of course I was half expecting to not be able to afford it anyway, although I've gotten good deals on pens and inks at that company's sales in the past -- they tend to run sales in their showroom, which is only about 20 minutes or so from my house).  But he told me that a refill for a Sonnet BP should fit the BP from the 75 set (I had looked online at the Staples website, but couldn't zoom in enough to see for certain if the tops for the BP refills were like the one in the 75 set -- and don't have time to go today because we have to leave in about a half hour to go to the memorial and bonfire for a friend, which is being held out in the next county at his family's farm... and will be sweating out the weather there and back on top of everything else).

I got my virtual wallet emptied by my fellow Pen Club members today. They are all technically “ Do Not Open Until Xmas” but I have to share. They will all get better photos under their respective color club threads after the holidays.

@carola, I didn’t end up with the 101n (although technically, I might tomorrow, I suppose), but I took home this cute little Fine Cursive Italic M300. Mini anything gets me every time:

I aso picked up my blue M605:

I got this really interesting Postal Reservoir pen that has a lovely flex nib:

I also bought another Salz Bros. Peter Pan:

@fireant sold me this lovely black Carène:

There was also this lovely Sheaffer Balance Jr. from Stewart:large.IMG_1487.jpeg.c76483f0f639327aa050d62f738617cc.jpeg

I also bought a frankenpen of sorts: a Wahl-Eversharp ring top with a Waterman nib- it was sold to my friend without a nib, and they put this lovely nib in it, and then sold it to me at less than the price of the nib:

Sooooo... this was quite the purchase! 😊 Congratulations on your new beauties!

Thanks! It’s only Xmas once a year, and there was so much restraint exercised.

Thank you!  I’m excited to try it, a collector had it for a long time and and was happy to see it go to a good home. I’ve always wanted a rhodium trim Pelikan.

This is a celluloid pen. The material is more translucent that one can appreciate from my photos.

I got this Sheaffer today, well it came back to me after a 30 year absence. It was my first fountain pen I bought in the mid 70's when I was in High School. I have cartridges coming tomorrow and will ink it up then. I soaked the nib for hours and not a hint of ink. I must have cleaned it well all those years ago. Many pens have come and gone, but it's special to have my first.

Congratulations! My first fountain pen was one of those as well - the earlier version with the cigar shaped ends in the mid-60s. Still have a couple of them.

I just got my repaired Shaeffer Balance back from Sherrell Tyree at Inkpen East.  Great work, and a very nice extra thrown in at no-change.  I'm one happy boy.

@Charles Rice I think I know Sherrell from pen club. Was the return address in Missouri or Kansas? I checked the website, and yes, I’ve met Sherrell at pen club, and talked with her. She’s a very nice person.

The address is Overland Park, Kansas.

Yep! Overland Park, KS is a suburb on the Kansas side of the greater Kansas City (Missouri) metropolitan area. Can you tell I’m on the Missouri side?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
