MB Racing green is a really nice colour.  Just what I am looking for @mizgeorge (saturated 'pastel' green).  It's not a vibrant green at all, but distinctly green anyway.  Easy to see on the paper too.  I think my eyes are more comfortable with the more saturated colours.

maclink, thank you for expressing so clearly what I must be myself thinking when I appreciate Montblanc Racing Green ink.

I prefer Egyptomania for color and shading. Racing Green starts off as an almost black and gets darker the longer you leave it in the pen.  It's also easy to make yourself from Royal Blue, Yellow and Black inks since I found a recipe.

Hi Dione,

As NoType mentioned, we would love hear the background story behind the mixture you found and of course we’d appreciate you sharing your mixture details. I would much rather save the Racing Green I have and make a homemade blend instead. I also think it would be great if there was a coordinated effort to express to Montblanc our desire they re-issue the Racing Green ink again.

cheers

Wael

Well, I did my part. I sent Montblanc a message requesting they bring back Racing Green. It’s been almost 10 years since it went out of production. It’s about time they re-issue it.

Wael El-Dasher, this is a capital idea and you’ve shown admirable initiative.  Pray, to whom at Montblanc did you send this missive?  I, too, and many others I am certain, would like to do their part.  I wonder at the feasibility and impact of composing and distributing a standard pre-written letter that interested parties could sign and send?

NoType,

I sent a message to Montblanc customer service Product Information via their website. The message was simple. I requested they forward my note to Montblanc department that handles the ink selection. I expressed that it’s been almost 10 years since Racing Green has been out of production and that many Montblanc pen owners wish for its return. I also expressed that some are going through great lengths and expense to acquire new old stock of this ink while others are trying mixtures to achieve the same color. Hence it would behoove MB to re-issue this ink again, for which we would be grateful….or something along those lines. Not sure anything will come of it but it can’t hurt to ask 🤷🏻‍♂️

I will write them... and reach out to the manager of the  Fritz Schimpf stationery in Germany... and the Toronto MB Boutique. Fritz Schimpf is in regular communication with MB... ... their fountain pen knowledge, understanding of industry trends and their customer service is impeccable.

Dione, you’ve certainly captured my attention as I half-sleepily perused this thread.  How can I adequately express my yearning to learn the recipe you found for Montblanc Racing Green?  It may not be possible for me to do so.  Also, I sense there is a classic tale behind your discovery; if so, please share that, as well.

Well, Dione seemed excited when I posted this thread(for which, I'll note, I did not take credit), so I wonder if they are hailing that as their amazing "discovery"

BTW, I still have that bottle I made up and now have some of the real stuff. I'll see if I can compare the later today.

Bunnspecial,

That’s a great thread you referenced above. Didn’t know about it so thank you for pointing us to it. Well done on making the Racing Green blend. Not sure if I can find the MB Yellow ink at this point as Im guessing it too has been discontinued.

i do believe though that if enough people contact Montblanc, there’s a possibility that the right person will hear about it and we’ll see the color back on the shelves.

Perhaps they’ll make a David Brown pen next year, given they made Enzo Ferrari pen this year. That would be a great time to release the Racing Green ink. We’ll never know unless we try.

bunnspecial, many thanks for providing this thread!  Thank you also for your proffer of a comparison between the homemade blend and the factory ink, which will be eagerly awaited by many here.

Wael El-Dasher, that Racing Green ink would be an appropriate tie-in for a pen tribute to Sir David Brown is an insightful observation, and I thank you for brightening my day by spurring my imagination.

I wonder if a hand-written letter in the ink would have any affect...probably not.

With that said, they recreated the old Emerald Green as an LE-I think 2018 Color of the Year. Perhaps they could break out of the "blues" and do another green.

That's a great idea bunnspecial.

I assume this was thought to be the case by a user who found the inks to seem identical?  Or was MB transparent about this?

I agree that it would be a great way of providing more of the Racing Green ink without having to bring it back into full production.

I don't think it was ever stated, however I've seen side-by-sides in several reviews. I don't have a bottle of old Emerald Green-I can try to fix that at some point in the near future and do my own comparison.

Regardless, both are definitely deal leaning and not true greens like the current Irish Green.

On an unrelated note, though, as much as I love the Montblanc British Racing Green, it does not look a whole lot like the color my MG is painted...

If anyone wants to swap a bottle of Egyptomania for a bottle of Racing Green I would do that swap.

I found and ordered two bottles from Montblanc.com. Calling various MB Boutiques directly is also a good idea. The ink appears to be no longer in production but a few bottles could still be waiting in various boutiques.

You have a Racing Green MG?  Which model?  I had a 1972 MGB, unfortunately orange (I couldn't afford to repaint it), but I loved that car.  Started and drove every day in the extremely cold winters of 1976-78, historically Illinois' worst - without benefit of garage or snow tires.  Manual choke and low wheel base for the win!  I still miss that car...
