I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your Heritage 1912!!!

FedEx finally delivered the pen. It is as I remember it. The weight, size and silky  and solid feel of the resin. Very happy. Just need to break it in a bit now.

@Wael El-Dasher, beautiful pen. I did handle it 3 years ago and remember that it was quite hefty and nice. Good choice on the nib, perfect for day to day writing.

I have an OBBB on my 149P and out of all the inks I have tried, J. Herbin Perle Noire and Bleu des Profondeurs makes the nib write so well. It's as if I am writing with a different pen.

@Wael El-Dasher The pic of your dog is fantastic.  So is your pen.  50 bottles of one ink colour is quite the stash!!! :yikes:

Thanks Maclink. That’s Molly the Magnificent. Just turned 1 year old. I do love that ink and wonder since it’s from 2013, even though it was still sealed, could be still dryer than a new fresh ink and possible the cause of my skipping. I love that color and gifted about 1/2 of them over the years to friends.

cheers

Hi Agentdaffy,

Not sure if it’s the heft or there’s something different about that resin, but it feels smooth and silky,

unlike the other MB resin pens I’ve had over the years. Just love handling that pen.

It’s funny you mention ur 149. My first 149, which I still have, I ordered it in the early 90’s from Marshall Fields department store (when they used to be around) and the nib I picked was the 3OB. Took a couple of months but they got it for me. I tried and tried with that nib to make it flow well but eventually ended up at the back of a drawer for years before I exchanged the nib to EF, which is a good daily nib for my use. But I still remember that 3OB when it flowed well, for short bursts, it was wonderful.

Cheers

@Wael El-Dasher, I tried many BB nibs from my past MB pens and it would always skip. I was very reluctant to buy this OBBB. I told my AD to get the pen already with OBBB nib and to start the warranty and nib exchange from the time I receive the pen with OBBB nib. They said yes as an exception. It would be the last time I would give MB a chance with anything BB or larger. Fortunately, the MB 149P OBBB did not skip 85% of the time with MB inks.

I decided to load it with J. Herbin Perle Noire, a very wet ink, the nib is such a dream and 99.5% skip free. That got me thinking, I need to buy J. Herbin inks that are water resistant enough and wet flowing. Just bought 4 inks from J. Herbin. So far, I absolutely love Bleu des Profondeurs even though the color online didn't seem that nice but in person, wow!

I say try some J. Herbin inks that are wet flowing. I went on goulet pens website and checked the ones that has a high flow from users' reviews.

@agentdaffy007, thanks for the info. I looked around on their website to see if I can find a color similar to the MB Racing Green that’s wet, but I figured it would just be easier to call them during the week otherwise I’ll spend days going through the inks and reviews.

Cheers

Tested the pen on an old Strathmore drawing pad I had. Much better results

I’ll chip in to the revision. I have a 1912 that I had initially ordered with a fine nib. I found I really enjoyed the spring to it. The only other pen in my collection that is that flexible is my 234 1/2.  Then I got bit by the broad nib bug and in addition to a 149 O3B I sent my 1912 in and had the nib swapped to an OBB. At the time I really enjoyed it. I put my pens away for a while and just started using them again. Nowadays I’m primarily writing in an A5 journal and wishing that I had kept the fine nib, as the lines the OBB puts down make it difficult to write small and legibly.

But the coral 1914.....

A few years ago I had both. A 1912 and the Coral 1914 333. Let the 1912 go in favor of the Martele. Thought I'd let my Coral go after acquiring a solid platinum 149. Yet, its still here in the stables. Wishing the current specialty Bespoke nib program MB is currently doing allowed for personal pens to be sent in. A small signature nib inlaid with an Emerald would look stupendous on the Coral 1914.

Where can I find the pen stands that your 149s are in?

@Dcharles, sorry for the late reply. I don't go on this forum often. It's called the Penwell and you can find it here www.goodmadebetter.com.

They work great. I have now a MB pen stand for my MB 149 along with a bunch of accessories like MB Ink Blotter, MB Inkwell, MB Letter Opener so there is not enough space to use these beautiful penwell.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
