they've also released a variant where the stock no.8 nib is swapped for a no.35 nib from kanwrite friction fit on an ebonite feed...

haha. Even you can do the above modification yourself. As far as I know airmail pen co, they would never release a pen with a nib having a third party logo like KW. This is done by some retailer as an upgrade etc or whatever.

I dont know about that... I do know that you can DIY it, I use a jowo #6 nib on my 71JT... I asked two pentailers, that you probably know, Suresh Bhavnani ji and Sudhin Paul ji about the model I showed above, Both said that particular model with the nib unit is not available, but a model with No.35 nib does exist, and sent me these photos... Interestingly, both suresh and sudhin ji sent me the same photos 9c6b2ce5-aad3-4e9d-9ddd-75358a178e04.thumb.jpg.d9e4fab9cff156c9a5feebc34dd893f7.jpg

I know that you can DIY it... thanks to your help, I've even managed to shoehorn a No.35 nib onto a 69T Pictures you might have seen on a different thread, while we discuss about makeshift knockout blocks... I demonstrated my jugaad by dismantling my 69T with a no.35 nib...

That's wonderful, I hardly get to write much nowadays.

Invest in a good knockout block or make one. A tight fitting nib and feed is a good thing. When you are removing the feeder from a Sheaffer School pen or No Nonsense, you have no option but to pull the nib feed out. With some practice you will develop the technique of pulling straight out without bending or damaging the fins. Use a pair of latex examination gloves for grip. Don't wear them, just use them as a gripping sheet.

When mounted on an Indian ED you can knockout the Sheaffer feed. But you have the tail to take care of. So you need a suitable hollow rod to use as a punch. Never use a hammer, buy a nylon head mallet. Hope this helps.

First soak the grip section in light soapy water overnight... Then pull using a rubber piece wrapped around the feed with your hand... Don't use pliers, as it may damage the fins... Give a little twisting motion. While pulling straight...

then you can change the nib

ASA subramaniam has Sheaffer nibs available

The sheaffer nibs and feeds are super tight in their section and unless you are experienced you will end up damaging the fins.

Can you post a clear pic of nib and feed just for my curiosity

  • 2 years later...

While searching for some information on the Airmail pen company, I ran into this tiny bit of information. It seems the Jumbo 71 model that we all love was introduced way back in 1971. And it is probably named after its year of introduction.

I was wondering about that.  It seems that the pen names didn't make any sense to me.  I have changed a few of the nibs on some of the Airmail/Wality eyedroppers in my collection.  It's not the easiest thing to do for some of them so I prefer to work with the nib until it's where I like it.  Some of the nibs on these pens were just awful but I discovered these pens when I was new to the broader aspects of the hobby.  It's been a long process of learning and working with these pens has contributed to my joy in these things.  Using those pliers, even with a rubber gripper, should be a complete and total last resort with the understanding that you could permanently damage what you have.  The nib will be damaged and the feed could break.  Remember, if it's that tight coming out, what is it going to be like when you replace it?

The best way to remove these nibs is to use a nib knockout block.

Indian no 8 nibs (28mm long) are a drop in replacement to the stock nib. Kanwrite has these nibs available.

To reinsert the nibs when the fit is tight, you may use this technique: link

That was very helpful and much appreciated.  I have knocked out nib and feed using a homemade block.  Getting everything refit has been a struggle at times but I have been successful, so far.  I have used Kanwrite replacement nibs and I am a fan.  Still have a stash of them that I keep just in case something bad happens with a pen I haven't inked up previously.
