Parker Premier 10 Monochrome (Black) Nib issue and replacement 1st Generation

Hello Everyone!

So I just purchased this pen in a M nib.  I know its an older pen.  I have been eyeballing it for years and finally made the jump.  Paid 425 plus tax and shipping (Cdn.) for it.  (S0924770) is the style of the pen.  I find the nib does not flow well on one side when writing.  I am using new Parker Quink.  Contacting Parker was pointless, they cannot exchange as its "old".  A search online does yield very similar nibs, but there seems to have been a generation 2 developed and those nibs all seem to fit the second generation, not mine.  My nib has three lines at the quill and three lines higher at the thread.  Everything I have seen online seems to have only three lines at the quill, nothing closer to the thread.

I am after a F nib for this pen.  As an alternative, where can I get someone to look at it and see if they can get the ink to flow better?  (preferably in Ontario Canada)

A frustrating experience after waiting so long to buy and Parker directly has proven useless.

Can any one give me a hand or some direction?

M

The Gen II has a screw cap rather than a snap cap (apparently there were reports of the cap loosening with time), so has threads at the top of the barrel:

I don't actually know if the foregrips are interchangeable so will take your word for it if they aren't.

Hello Heinkle,  thank you for replying.  I don't know to be honest.  I contacted the online pen store in the UK who said they were not interchangeable.  I didn't realize that was a thread for the cap.  My cap is a snap on.

Try contacting Salman Khattak at Toronto Pen Company.  I believe he mostly does nib grinding, but the "Nib Services" page on his website does quote a price for "adjusting flow".

Salman does great work.  He's done a few of my pens, and has done in-house nib-grinding days at both Laywines in Toronto and Phidon Pens in Cambridge.  You can contact him by email and see if he can help out.

Ok so I have an appointment to bring my pen in on Saturday and he will try to repair the nib and bring it down to a fine point for me.  Cost is estimated at 40.00 plus 20.00 for service while I wait.  I will deliver in person as its only a 40 min drive from my house.    Will let you all know how it unfolds.  M

Hello Everyone, so I had my appointment with Mr. Khattak at Toronto Pen company.  Appointment was on time.  He was safe (covid BS) and extremely pleasant and helpful.  He repaired both my Parker as imaged above and my Waterman that I wanted reduced to fine from Med.  Ink flows perfectly on both.  He is an excellent solution for missing nibs and saving money.  Had my Parker nib been available, it would have been around 125.00 USD.  Toronto Pen Company reduced it to what I wanted for 40.00 CDN plus 20.00 for while you wait service.  Two pens operational for less than the price of one replaced NIB.  I highly recommend him and encourage contact for tune ups, repairs etc.  Exceptional individual.

As you can see, there are no marks on the nibs from shaving them down from M to F.  Ink flow is perfect.

Thank you Mr. Khattak

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
