Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Pilot Mixable Colour Yellow

This is review #80 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: All the images are a bit too orange.  While the ink definitely has an orange tinge to it, it's not quite to the extent the images show.  Cleaning was quick and easy, though it did take a little longer than one might expect from a yellow ink.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

There appears to be a little sheen!  I'm surprised this is so legible in an EF nib, but you know what comes next for this overritin' southpaw....

Thanks again for the review.  👍🏻

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Nope, the ink is still wet!!  This was after the video, taking a picture with the USB microscope, so around 20 minutes after the text was written.  I'm tellin' ya, don't use this on FP-friendly paper! :)

You and me, both.  (Though the pics are a little darker than real life.)

Pfff - any paw is justified in not wanting to use this on FP-friendly paper.  But if you need to run your Pilot Parallel over text on lousy office paper - like as a highlighter - this would do you just fine. :)

Ah, thanks for this review.  I've toyed with writing only in yellow inks for awhile but this particular one can be skipped given its lack of a dry time.

Thank you Liz - these haven't really been on my radar, and I'm not sure that's changed!!

You're welcome! I'm just as glad to scratch one off your list as put one on.  It'll be interesting to see if the other colors behave similarly.  The only other one I've tried was the black, and it is very black - but that's all I remember.

Great review, Liz. This looks like a dead ringer to apache sunset. I like the new comparison bubbles at the beginning. Quite an improvement, bravo

Makhabesh roamed the maze, amusing herself by catching and releasing misfortunate rodents.

"Stop the racket",  Quintus was furious.

"What racket?"

"I'm losing my concentration,"

"Is it my fault that you're the worst wizard ever?"

"How dare you! You flying freak of a feline,"

"There's a spider dangling on top of your head,"

"I'm not falling for that,"

"You're afraid of spiders,"

"I'm so not!"

Qunitus eyed above his head none the less and screamed, jumping away.

"It's all your fault,"

Makhabesh took her tail by a paw and swung it along singing.

:D  Thanks!  Yes, it's quite close to Apache Sunset - including the long dry times...  I added those "bubbles" so that you'd know I put down new swatch cards, without me leaving in the waste-of-time process of changing them. :)  I'm working on transitions elsewhere, as well, so it's not quite so "jerky".

You know Makhabesh is a he, right? ;)

  • 1 year later...

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 305µm.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
